heheheh- LMAO - yeah I actually removed mine from my P5B-E when I got thinking it was a "rather" protective cover for the socket ;-) Needless to say I hadn't built a system in a number of years and was expecting something akin to older processors. The good news is it's almost as easy to put back on as it is to remove it.

My L630B e6600 runs very hot compared to another L642A e6600... and that's at the same oc/vcore... could it because I've got one e6600 with paste rather then solder under the IHS?

Hmmm i suppose this could be the connection to why the newer core 2's (B revs) run so hot.....

Anyone got pics of removed retention bracket and cpu?

I have them at home. I'll post them later.

Replaced the Artic Cooling cooler for the Ninja Rev.B and now I have very good temps. I has having high temps on Coretemp with IHS on because the cooler only made contact with the edges of the IHS. It was running in high 60's. Now with IHS removed I have temps in mid 30's (in Coretemp). Temps in Asus Probe also went down, but don't remember the old value. Now it's in the low 40's.

I was having trouble at 3ghz, now i'm priming at 3.2 stable.

When the IHS is removed, how can the CPU be maintained in the socket ? Indeed, it seems to me that the IHS is necessary ?

And is the contact between the die and the base cooler (waterblock, Mach II GT) possible ? Indeed, the height of the die may be lower than the height of the socket ?

use a shim and you wont smash or crack or chip the core...

maybe build up around core with Epoxy resin and flaten of..

    That's why I haven't removed the IHS on mine e4300 - I don't know how to cool it :-/.

I think the ThermalRight Ultra 120 perhaps will reach the core without IHS - but i'm not sure. I asked ThermalRight, but they were not much of a help...
See this picture here: http://img.neoseeker.com/v_image.php...d=1940&image=3 - dosen't it look like the hight of the IHS isn't nessecery ?

    hi again

I tried to remove IHS from E6300. It was soldered.
I got IHS off and visually all looks ok, no damage.
But... cpu does not boot. Somehow i broke it
i do not recomend removing IHS nothing but E4300 witch is only core 2 duo what is connected with epoxy.
Removing soldered IHS is extremely dangerous!

Sucks to hear theres no boot on the 6300, good luck getting it going if you can. And great work on the original, I just found this thread now but I'm impressed by your initial results. I know I could never have a steady enough hand to shear an IHS off.

NO PRYING!!! Only cutting... killed my already halfdead manchester with to much pressure on blade, don't get me wrong... it needs to be very firm cutting, but not hard, if you get the idea. It was just for practice anyway, had the FX60 lying just WAITING to be undressed! Lost about 10c on it, so now with 0.1V ekstra (1.45V) it's what it used to be at 1.35V. The Manchester (3800+ x2) died because I was to uncareful with the blade, and I destroyed som components underneath IHS. Se the FX60 thread and you'll see picture.

It took some serious home-inventing on heatsink though, used (not kidding) a matchbox, som tape and I also broke an old, thin electronical screwdriver to mod it tight... but then again, this is s939 not 775

KJ did you put that IHS back on or did you somehow (how?) remove the solder from the core?
