    Cool e4300 IHS Removed!

    Did it today!

    Suprisingly there is no solder stuff (dont know exact word) between E4300 core and IHS. So removing IHS i didnt have to "boil" CPU, just cut rubber edges and pull IHS away....
    Intel is using thermal greace instead.

    Removal gave me 8-10Celsius on aircooling.

    Now i can reach above 3650mhz easily. Im using aircooling.
    Havent tested maximum fsb yet. but ran few tests with 3690mhz

    NB! Enjoy removing IHS of your CPUs! BEWARE THAT REMOVING IHS VOIDS WARRANTY!!! If you´re not familiar with removing tools and you dont have lots of patience and steady hands,then DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!!!

    hey hey pal, i didn't make fun of you, sorry my bad english (chilean here :mrgreen. Removing that from the e4300 was really impressive

    I don't know anybody who have removed the IHS and maintained his cpu alive.

    There are many of us AMD fans who removed opty tops all day long, never had a chip die!

    For some reason I was yet to see someone remove an Intel IHS for some reason...LoL

    I removed the retention bracket and adapted an Artic Cooling 7 (removed the plastic pins and bolted the thing to the motherboard).

    I started it, but it may not be doing good contact to the core. I ran Orthos (small fft's), Asus Probe and Coretemp 0.95, at 3ghz, 1.325vcore.

    After 4 minutes, Asus Probe was giving 49ºC and Coretemp 119ºC??? Nothing crashed... Removing the core may confuse some sensors... Anyone had the same problem?

    Best thing for cutting rubber edges is razor like this

    You can see how far under IHS this rubber goes and how deep you have to cut on the picture in first post.
    Its best because its ultrasharp and also soft. Using this will not hurt cpu pcb if cutting. I also used this.
    Second thing is to thind very very thin screwdriver or knife. Put strong elastic tape or credit card between CPU PCB and screwdriver. Slip Screwdriver gently under IHS and turn it until IHS comes apart

    Be very careful with CPU PCB! Breaking powerlines on it is very easy!
    I broke my Celeron D like this.

    So what method did you use to remove the IHS anyway?

    Was there thermal epoxy on the core? if so then how'd u get it off?

    I would attempt 2 take off the IHS but i'm always worried i'll crush the core with the heat sink.

    Its good to heat the IHS just like removing IHS whats connected with solder.
    I did like that.
    I belive Core is connected with epoxy. E4300 IHS is not connected with epoxy. Its thermal greace. But its best to heat the IHS, removing it because thermal greace get softer if hot.

    Don't leaver it off...you damige the traces on the top of the PCB it's how i killed my P4...

    Use 4 blade and once all the rubber is cut over lap them, they will have a spring effect, gently aply a little heat, lighter for this cpu perhaps.
