Orthos and 32m stable, yet crashes

    EVGA 680i
    2gb teamxtreem 4-4-4-12 ram
    b1 ES 6600
    seasonic 600w PSU
    evga 8800gtx

Im clocked up to 3.4 (1500) with almost all my voltages maxed out (everything but cpu, cpu is at 1.60). Yes, i know these are high, but ive got solid cooling, and everything is below 55 under load.

Its 8 hours orthos stable, dual 32m stable. However, i get random crashed in windows, apps will just close on their own, games wont even start, ive even restarted a couple times.

I was thinking it might be pci-e frequencies, so those are locked at 100. Other than that, i dont know. Any suggestions?

Up your CPU voltage. If that cures things, you know it was the CPU. Or back down your OC slightly, you may just be hitting a CPU wall.

Are you running the "blend" test or just "Small FFT"?

I've had systems that could run the Small FFT all day without error but failed after 30mins of blend. Increasing chipset voltage usually fixes it.

Run Orthos at priority 9 too.

Another possiblity is that your PSU may be playing up. No doubt running Orthos is stressful but the power draw from your graphics card when running other applications may be causing the instablity. Doubtfull though with a 600W Seasonic.

Good luck buddy, hope you find the cause

    You install chipset drivers?

I forgot to do that before!

Still overclocked great, but would crash at random

The last time that this happened to me was RAM timing. It could be or it might not be. Just something you might want to double check. Sub-timing plays an important role in stability as well.

I'm having the same issue as you. I can do 7x450=3150 and it'd be rock solid. 8x425=3400 is rock solid too. 8x450=3600, I can get it to be orthos stable for 24+ hours in small, large, blend. However, that's only if I don't use the computer. If I use it, it'll randomly crash programs or the entire computer.

Because of the 8x450 and 7x450 tests, it looks like it's the cpu and not something else, especially seeing how my psu is up to the task or should be.

    Oh well.

edit: 1.425v crashes orthos at 3600. 1.45v doesn't, but still causes problems. 1.55v is no different except for producing more heat.

Hmm, appears it is the cpu, i turn it down and it stops. So strange that itd be orthos (blend) stable, but crash at the slightest program usage (things like opera or trillian.

I was measuring temps with Core Temp btw, so TAT is a few degrees higher (62). But thats still within reason.

Well, looks like a need a new cpu, shame my b1 stepping ES (which were normally godly from what i read) isnt very good at all.
