At CES they ran crysis at 2048x1536 maxed out at ~60 fps with a c2d(not quad-core, dual-core) and a SINGLE 8800gtx. Every showing of this game in the past year or more has been with the 8800GTX. Yet, people are still worried about how it will run on a 8800gtx?

Has poorly coded games really scarred us this much, to the point that we completely forget how well a game can run when it's heavily optimized? Think about the things done on consoles thanks to the huge amounts of optimization, and now imagine what a PC with 4 times the power could do with that much time focused on optimizing the game. That's what companies like Epic, id, and apparently crytek all do.

Anyone who thinks this game won't run good on current high-end hardware is out of their mind, or just too use to poorly coded games.

I've been experimenting with different lighting/shdow techniques. I wanna know EXACTLY what these guys do. I've never even heard of real-time ambient maps. I'm gonna guess ambient lighting is based on light sources near by as opposed to a fixed number, but can't even begin to think how that could be implemented.

Just curious if all those complaining about aliens in the first farcry actually played it? No "aliens" anywhere. Best game in a long time, and I still play it.

Crysis will be simply amazing. September can't get here fast enough...

dont get too excited guys, ur gonna need at least an 8800 GTX.. or an R600 (has much more memory bandwidth) for it to run smoothly.. i bet its even gonna have pretty bad minimum fps aswell with those cards.

gotta love the crapshoot that is every single hardware requirement guess on this thread.

Unless you can provide proof of what video was run with what hardware setup, give it a rest.

Thanks for the higher quality vid, awesome.

Read post #76. Crytek is not EA. Like he said, people are too used to horribly optimized games. It IS possible to have great graphics, and be light on system resources.

I think people are funny when they talk about min requirements for new games. If a 8800 series or R600 series card won't be enough for the game to run smoothly then it would be a failure before it's even launched. The requirements for games raises slowly but surely so it's always a good idea to compare it to the most demanding game available at the moment and then based on that predict the requirements might be about same or slightly higher for example. Companies need to make money from the games as well so they can't make it really really demanding and this isn't just some random buggy gfx engine, there's so much work put into it.

Personally I think minimum requirements for this game will be GF6600/Radeon X1600, 1GB RAM and Pentium 4 2~2.5GHz. Of course now we're not talking about 2018x1536 max AA and AF etc. but there's so many people out there who are pleased to play games with less than full quality settings too. But to play smoothly at let's say 1280x1024 with AA4x AF4x for example you will definitely need better stuff for example than what I specified above.

But the manufacturer specified system requirements may be somewhat off or inaccurate so it wouldn't really be enjoyable even if you have the required hardware like Oblivion for example, a P4 2GHz, 512MB RAM and FX5200 won't do any good despite it meets the requirements, but that's another story. xD

In an earlier article, it was reported that Crysis was running at 60+ fps for most of the time at CES 2007. In this new article, Jack Mamais tells techspot that the game is running at a resolution of 2048x1536. Judging by the HUD size in the images below, this seems like it's true. Combine that information with the fact that most of the code is still unoptimized, and you can easily understand how well Crysis will run. Take note that Crysis was running in DX10 at CES 2007, so could Microsoft's claim of 6 to 8 time the performance be true? If you read some of the earlier news items or read the techspot link posted below, you'd also know that Crysis was running an unknown core 2 duo processor and a single 8800GTX.
That sums it all up right there. In an unoptimized state a single 8800GTX pulled 60+ at 2048x1536, in game, with people playing it.

They ran a booth showing off a game while running non-native resolution, that's kinda hard to believe.

Either that report is wrong, or it wasn't anti-aliasing, it was a really blurry screen.

    patience buddy.... patience....

it's still better than nothing...... If there are no news or something to show the development progress, people will complain as well. Then again the videos are to promote the CryEngine, not the game. It needs to, then more developers will get into projects utilizing this engine and making more games for us by next year.

8800 is wicked good at AA. 4xAA anything loses like 2fps.

This is the first game I've heard of to also use the Cry Engine 2 (besides Crysis).
