    BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 and Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz OC!!!

I built 2 Comps for my friends based on the
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz
BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 550 MCP
combo at newegg for $150 bucks and this is my result 10 minutes after power on
    http://justoverclockit.com/pics/T-Force.png
I didn't even try.... the one before this one was on a weaker power supply and memory so it went to 2.5. this one booted and 3.0 no problem. I just left it there like this for my friend a little over volted just in case. no time to test.GO AMD

I think I am going go ahead and order that setup.

What RAM are you using in this setup?

I really think this CPU is the best bang for buck atm.

Sure, the K8 architecture means it falls behind a 4300 performance wise at these clocks, but its also half the price!

    Nice OC

This CPU at 2.8 is as fast as an E6600 give or take.

    Not a fair comparison.
Yeah and comparison of new improved Yonah arch. with K8 is not fair either .
Just remember these words when Barcelona vs Penryn arrives .You'll have higher clocked(although stock) Yorkfields VS server Barca k10 chips working on low clocks .

I'm am comparint stock to overclocked.

But my point is that you get a performance of a stock 6600 for $150 with a MB not bad

My POINT is you can only compare ONE VARIABLE. Beyond that the comparison is MEANINGLESS.
Relax Brent,no need for caps.We are all grown ups here, aren't we?
My point is that Merom architecture has an advantage over Hammer at some degree that Hammer needs higher clocks to compensate that.BTW Brisbane 3600+ is hovering around 100 bucks and with a Biostar Tforce mobo costs around the same price as the E4300! So if you OC both and say,you reach 3Ghz with good air cooling with both,do you think that you would notice in every day work the IPC advantage of Conroe over that Brisbane(if we suppose you run a single GPU configuration)?I seriously doubt(excluding the SSE optimized apps).

To do this you would have to get EVERYONE to agree on some measure of performance and use that in your calculations.

Considering that NO ONE will agree on this (Intel guys would want SuperPi and other cache and integer intensive apps, AMD guys would be heavily skewed toward memory intensive apps) this will not happen.

You could say AMD is 2X bang for buck in FPU and memory intensive code, and then with the EXACT same setup run some benchmarks in which the C2D setup spanks the living CRAP out of the AMD setup in video encoding.

This is been the GREATEST problem facing benchmark writers for over a decade. What code to include/not include in a benchmark, and they how the different code should be weighted to come to a number that defines over system performance (and you need ONE number if you are going to calculate a Bang to Buck Ratio like you propose).
I understand where you are coming from... but this is a rough analysis.
So roughly this combo keeps up with a stock E6600... give or take... Not a peeing contest in every category. I will also like to add that this is faster than the stock E4300 and E6300 and E6400. Again Roughly.

OC vs. OC for guys like us a far more valid comparison, but I do get you point.
Those that are on a budget here at XS would probably like to know what this thing is capable of. also everyone here at XS KNOWS that an OCed C2D will wipe the floor with this CPU. Also I'm sure EVERYONE here knows what I was trying to say by comparing this to a stock C2D. One more thing to decently OC a C2D you NEED to invest ALOT more money than you would in this box. I would say around 2.4X the amount of cash.

Nice OC and thanks for the pics.

You have linky Brent? Are these 65nm and 512 cache x 2?

the problem was mentioning an intel cpu. UNfortunatly it started a bull fight.

maybe change it to 'fx62' speeds, since it's not really as fast as a 6600 anyway.. when it reaches 3gig perhaps.

Let's assume it was though, Brent I don't see the problem with his comment. It went without saying he was refering to a stock 6600 as a benchmark.

to me it's just like someone saying their 6300 @ 3 (or 3.2 to be fair) is now at X6800 speeds.

What is supposed to be exciting about this.

is that this CPU and the board for it is less than the cheapest C2D you can get. and the performance is nice for the buck spent. I posted this to show people just that. I use a C2D myself and I know OCed they blow everything out of the water. But this combo is perfect for someone on a really tight budget. a whole PC with a monitor for ~$700 that will play the latest games is pretty good.
