    I picked win2k3.
    Time is money.
And I hate wasting my time with probs in windows.
Win7, if it marked the partition as dirty, the partition is usually fine.
But it will not let me get write access until I've ran checkdisk on it.
Which is bs because win2k3 doesn't need to do that, I can del the startup ver of it and never worry about it until I feal like it.

    Example situation.
I overclock, boot windows, run everest bench to get my mem orginized my windows to stop messing around.
I run a test, it uses a file it "reads" from the disk (that's all it has to do, if it was writing then running checkdisk would be a good idea eventually).
Then it crashes while the filehandle was open.

Lets see, I run a test while I'm watching a movie, that's what I do, play a game and watch a movie at the same time to test my system is another way I doit.
If I bsod, windows 7 marks my used partitions dirty.
I can still read the files, but if I goto use it after testing, I have to check the stupid thing 1st.
Which takes a min on a 500gig partition.

My win2k3, I don't have to do that unless I actually damaged a filesystem which I usually don't, that's why I ran the everest benchmark duh...

    I use win7 x86, and win2k3 x86 (I liked x64's datacenter for the most part, but I didn't like the emu bs).
    I didn't like the 1st ver of win2k8(datacenter sp1 was complete crap), and I don't care about it's sp2 because it's x86 is in russian only.

In the begining for me win7 was a nightmare for my programming and security issues galore.
Now it isn't so bad, it's getting better the more I work with it.
I use it over win2k3 because of the gui, except for the lame start menu...
And the prob with changing my colors and text's, taskbar double size sucks... etc.
The only thing I use win2k3 for anymore is for testing it's ver of active desktop(gadgets) and for it's clsid's, stuff like that.
Getting it merged, config wise with win7.

The only major regret I have in win7 at the moment is the missing int21 vectors.
It's no longer fun to play with it's console in that respect.
    Makes programming, diffrent, missing stuff.
I can't test code in windows before I move on to other env's anymore.
    At least some code.
There is ways to call win32 api's from the console though so I guess eventually it won't matter to me.
    Still sucks though.

    I hate windows...
And I hate linux much more... :\
    I liked dos lol...
Don't get me wrong I like gui's, but I don't like windows or linux or especially... mac os(made for retards or something).

    No offence to anyone.
Nothing is better then windows until something better does actual come around...
    Stuck with winblows.

I can only imagine what the bs the retail customers have to go through with activation and entering keys and all that.

Windows 7 by far, I'm not even sure how XP beats it. Must be outdated.

OSX is pretty hard to beat. Been away from windows since 2004 running Mac pro's. Recently put Win 7 on my latest build, dual quad E5640 westmere system. So far, am liking it. Still learning it but have to say Microsoft did this pretty much right (must have learned from vista). Seems all the big players are moving to mobile OS's. Linux is pretty good but still not a regular users OS. WebOS looks pretty good for a mobile OS. Been watching this since palm started it. To bad palm couldn't finish it. HP should make it good though. Waiting for their tablet to come out this summer to see if it will replace my iPad. Moving away from a closed system, such as apple. I guess the best OS is the one your comfortable with and trust!

The problem with OS X is it can only be installed, legally, on a Mac.

While being the best OS (subjective), you are limited on your hardware options. A high end Sony Vaio Z owns a Macbook Pro price/performance.

Seven Ultimate on a new SSD is rather sweet once you cut down the reg a little. XP or 2003 is still faster though for bench work.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing at first -- then I noticed that this began in 2007 before most knew what 7 was. It seems far outdated.

No doubt, it had its merits.

I think this poll needs to be pulled, its outdated and hardly anyone knew of Win 7 when it the poll was made, also it says in first post you can vote multiple times but you cant, I logged on to see it say you have already voted and I see no option to vote or at least update my vote, also as mentioned we now have Win 8 that should really be on that list too, even though I've not tried it yet, many have.

I doubt the mods see these latest comments though and they have probably forgot about this poll, maybe someone should PM them to remind them?

It will look a bit daft if its still here when the inevitable Win 9 gets released

Agreed! I saw this thread last night and voted and was shocked that XP is still in the lead!

    I liked these operating systems:

Windows 98SE, XP and 7. The rest were trash especially ME and Vista. 95 and 2000 was ok. Never really used non MS OS's before so I can't comment on them. Not really liking Windows 8, hate how they got rid of the Start button and Aero, I don't mind Metro though but I would prefer if MS actually kept the Start button.

First post of 2013 to say this poll is almost 5 years old

I wonder if it will be around when Win 9 is out? Not that I support Win 8 that much, but at least I tried it, at 25 quid before end of this month it was worth a gamble.
