LoL! Been doing this a while...

Nux history: Cut my teeth on Debian, tried the others (remember those 6-Paks?) settled on Slackware. Truthfully, IMHO, there is FreeBSD - then there's everything else... but enough of that!

Went through all the versions of MSDOS - ending up using DR-DOS/QEMM on everything - Server, desktop, portable, lappy, yada, yada...

Tried all the versions of Windows, starting with v1.0 (still have it in the closet - single 5 1/4" floppy). Looked like Norton Commander, sorta...

Hated ALL versions of Windows until Win95 came out - used IBM OS/2 instead. Stopped around the time Warp came out - could see the writing on the wall.

Ending up settling on Win98SE, way longer than I should have!

Came late to Windows 2000 (W2K Pro). Only reason I started using it was, that's what they used at work. Grew to love it! Still use it...

Never did like XP (sorry)! Not knocking it! I installed it on lots of friend's machines. Just wasn't for me...

Having said all that, I bought a lappy recently with Vista HP. Gotta say, I hated it at first, but now that I'm starting to get used to the underpinnings I'm starting to love it too, especially after turning off the pagefile system and enabling the ReadyBoost feature.

Once again, I see the handwriting on the wall...

Seriously, though, my favorite is MineutteOS. It's a 1.44 MB OS, complete with 3d games and server apps. 100% Assembly baby.

I believe you mean menuetos and BeOS is now being called Haiku.

Vista 64 is by far the best. Nothing even comes close. If you have a powerful machine, you will have a beast.

Windows Vista (both x86 and x64). It was different at first, and old hardware (and anything made by Creative Tech. Corp) has spotty support at best, but it truly will become what everyone will be clinging to in 5* years once Windows 7 comes out.**

Currently dualbooting XP64 and Vista64 (ultimate).

Currently i'm using vista most.
Although i like em both i think XP64 pwns all.

I don't think they run great yet. People don't realize that it is not vistas fault though. The software companies need to make it work better is what the problem is, not vista.

Vista x64 owns for me. After trying it I formatted my XP hard drive. I've been running it since September.

I'm very happy with Vista x64, but still use XP Pro and Ubuntu 7.10 on my laptop. All three great OS'.

Same here minus Ubuntu.

Both XP Pro 32-bit and Vista Home Premium 64-bit running here, and I am leaning towards Vista. It has a lot of improvements that just make it a better OS. The few quirks it has left will be ironed out in time.

Curious if anyone has an opinion on whether I should do x32 or x64 for a gaming machine and video conversion machine. I am actually leaning towards either XP MCE 2005 or Vista Home premium because I like media center and I can stream to my Xbox 360 fairly easily without having to use something like Tversity. Anyway, I think I am on my 10th install in the last 24 hours, mainly due to issues with installations, but I am currently setting up XP Pro x64, but it seems sluggish, hoping SP2 fixes that.

So, any help or opinions with reasons would be helpful, I don't think I can do this again,

Nevermind, I found Vista Premium x64 for $109.99 at Frys and couldn't pass it up. I figure this way I have the best of both worlds, MCE and x64.

Vista Ultimate (64-Bit) and Windows XP Home (32-Bit) were my favorite since I started using Windows 95. Windows XP is kind of getting old now and am loving the Vista 64-Bit. It does make a difference comparing to 32-Bit especially on Games. Vista will probably be the best OS they ever had in 2 years in my opinion since softwares and machines will be focusing on Vista unlike XP when they upgraded it from previous version.

Looking forward to newer technology every day (It doubles every 72 Hours!).

Ubuntu is a close second, but the lack of gaming support and the (obvious) absence of the .NET framework move it down a notch for me.
