I am currently running Vista Business on my destkop and Ultimate on my laptop. I must say if you have a good and up to date system it runs really well imo. XP and Linux (Ubuntu) come in a close second for me

Damn I wish I could change my vote now, currently trying out Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2 and damn it's fast and stable. I also removed some components before installation and did the usual tweaks with Nlite and windows folder was only 650MB after install.

My 3Dmark05 score went up about 30 points with same drivers I used in XP and what's most interesting, I always used to get a stutter in the 3rd test in the beginning when the airship flies by in Win XP but now with Windows Server 2k3 I didn't even have a single stutter, the ship moved past the screen totally stutterfree! So it seems to run smoother with this OS.

Also what I like about the OS how dual core performance is like it should be from start, no patches or amd drivers required (altho I run the default amd processor driver for my opteron anyways) and both old games run like they should without needing to configure affinity and in new games the performance is great as it should be.

Also system resource usage seems slightly lower. My new favorite OS, keeper for sure!

Why not? You're just probably one of those thinking "server" and that it wouldn't work fine for workstation usage, unfortunately with a small tweaks here and there it's just as good and better than even Win XP (and Vista of course) if you want a stable, fast and secure windows OS. Should have tried it earlier!

I have to vote for Windows Vista: Home Premium. There aren't that many bugs. I've been using it since March thanks to the fact that it came with my new laptop (so wouldn't be paying for an upgrade) and it's an all around great system. As far as prices go, it costs more than Home Basic and less than Ultimate and has the Aero interface so it's probably the version of Windows Vista with the most value.

Thumbs down vista ultimate is the best

    friends,
if you are using old car since long that doesn't means that "old is gold" and why should i brought new car and to say people purchasing new cars are fool and westing their money

    is it clear my point

i have tested xp pro since long and now i am using vista ultimate having great security features for internet and system

if you are using shared cable net connection with a single click you can hide your network discovery to other with a single click and my friend has formated no of computers in past of those poor guys
for xp you have to use extra softwares ....very bad..'

you can stop no of startup unwanted programs and keep your system faster your surfing faster in windows defender
in xp pro you have to use extra softwares..

if someone installs malisious programs on your system vista will not allow first it will ask for administrative permission if you click yes then and then only that program will be installed on your system
    xp has no feature

finally if you are ready to use unsafe os for few months with supporting 8 to 10 kids(other softwares) eventhough getting slow system perfomance then reinstall os for faster performance again same circle continue...oh no...then use your old lovely loving xp pro...kids....ha ha ha ha

I bought Vista Ultimate and had it on my new system for 2 days found that EAX sound drivers where not supported then went and got XP Pro cause Ive got a Xfi sound card. I must say yeah Vista is a great O system and all fast, secure, well organised but it dosent support 1/2 the hardware gamers love! And till then my vote goes with XP although I do have a soft spot for Windows 2000
I HAVE A COMPUTER! HAPPY NOW?

It's not microsoft that is not on the ball it is the manufacturers of the other things. MS has done their part, now it's the other companies. I have XP pro but have been working with Ultimate for the last 3 weeks and I will be making the switch in the next 3 months for sure. Great OS>
