Comp won't recognize both sticks of ram.

I have the Abit Fatal1ty AA8XE that was discontinued. The board is a DDR2 ram board. I purchased 2 x 1gig sticks of OCZ PC8000 Platinum 5-5-5-15.

I placed them in dual channel and the mem test only recognises 1gig. I then swap stick positions and still only 1 gig. I put both sticks in adjacent slots (non dual channel) and the mem test till only reads 1gig. I have tested each stick separately in slot #1 and the mem test reads 1 gig. Why wont the comp/mem test read up to 2 gigs when both sticks are placed in dual channel?

I would reset the BIOS. If that fails make sure you have the latest BIOS loaded. Just for kicks use CPU-Z to check the SPD timings to be sure they match. I can't think of a reason why this would happen.

ok, after procrastanating over the problem I decided to give it another try.

After 2 hours of troubleshooting I have come to a solution.

Slots 1 and 3 are supposed to be "Dual Channel" according to the Mobo/manufacture.

Well.... as it turns out slot 2, and 3 did not recognize any ram in them. Slot 4 however recognized the ram and made it "Dual Channel". I don't get it.

So... I now have my 2 gig's of Dual Channel Ram.


BUT..... ( I bet you knew this was comming )

According to CPU-Z under the SPD Tab

Slot #1 reports my memory stick to be:

The Memory Tab on CPU-Z shows this:

Is this normal? Why is CPU-Z reporting different max bandwidths and timings for these suposivly "identical" sticks of dual channel ram?

Something seems odd here. Where did you buy this memory?

The SPD should not be set at 500mhz on the 1st stick. The 2nd stick appears correct.

Your board doesn't officially support this memory, but that shouldn't stop you from running it.
