ooohhhh finally!
Paper launch confirmed.
Either way, good news. It's about time ATi!
One thing I find worrisome, AIB's won't have them til march 24th... That's only 1 week to make enough for launch....
Expect a very limited launch of the XTX, with very low availability.
thanks for sharing

I'll wait til supplies are quite well since I don't want another week 24 conroe if you get what I mean, lol.

Very nice info metro! (as always)
It's true. With the promise of release in Q1, the last week of March doesn't bode well for actual quantity, more-so just keeping their word.
At least they arn't sitting on it, it looks like as soon as the new revision is completed, it's straight off to AIB's and the marketplace.
That is all.
Peace and love.
Im really looking forward to the fanboy war LOOOL!!!!
I can spend hours reading those sick inputs..and i find it funny.

well they better launch this asap, and ill get another 8800gts for 50 bux cheaper than current price ...
and ill wait for R680 or X2950XTX
but intel + crossfire .... i dunnno if AMD is willingly to write good drivers for intel chipset
sign ... my best bet is to hope that AMD 's K8L live up to its hype, so i can do AMD + crossfire
otherwise intel quad core + nforce 680i sux big time ... barely reaches 333fsb via air cooling
E6600 @ 3.6

EVGA 8800Ultra

You got it wrong, they don't make them. They stick a pretty picture on them and slip it in a box. Thats about it, maybe print some DVD's too.Originally Posted by DilTech

Dude, your post count is high enough and yet I see you making one word posts like this almost every day. Post if you have something to say that actually adds something to the topic.Originally Posted by nn_step

I know that, but if the initial shipment of boards doesn't hit AIB's until march 24th, that still leaves less than 1 week until launch. That's REALLLLY cutting it close.Originally Posted by Iconyu
There's a bit more to launch than merely slapping a sticker on it and saying "here you go" to ups. They have to figure out allocations, prepare them for distribution, decide if they want to keep oem cooling or go with their own design(usually not a factor), decide upon their bundle(if any), and then ship them to the distributors.
Those distributors then have to figure out their allocations for each brands card, and take orders from the shops like newegg, ZZF, tigerdirect, and the like. As in, that's 3 different shipments for one simple product before it's sold.
1 week to do all THAT is not a good thing, at all.
You do all that before the cards gets to you based on estimates from ATi and their yields. Most companies do some planning in advance, if they waited until they had stock before they thought about any of that then they wouldn't still be running.
We'll put it this way icon, even if they had it all decided upon the and ready to box up the day they recieved them, with shipments not starting until the 24th and launch the last week of march there's STILL no way they could have them out in significant numbers.
It's just not physically possible.
We're talking about a card that's not even hit it's engineering sample phase yet. They don't have a clue what yields will be like because of this!
So, we're talking less than 3 weeks from engineering sample to AIB's having boards. Take a week-week and a half of that time for total testing of the new chips/cards. How long does that leave to produce cards to ship to aibs? Bout a week to a week and a half, tops. We're talking a total of 2 and a half weeks, tops, to produce cards and have them on shelves. In contrast, nvidia had ~2 months IIRC from AIB to launch...
For launch, we could be looking at numbers more limited than the 7800GTX 512mb. Literally.
thanks for the info metro, hope we'll see some benchs in the near future.

We are talking about a $600 video card here right? I'm sure they won't be as rare as you think. They're going to be £400+ in the UK, and even if they sell out on day one ATi can keep sipping until supply is equal to the demand.
The 8800GTX has been the fastest card on the planet for a while and there has been no supply issues due to its price either.
There was no supply issues, not because of the price, but because NVidia had a 2 month head start on producing them. They've already shipped over 400,000 of them. That's a LOT for a high-end card.Originally Posted by Iconyu
Even with numbers that high, brands were still selling out over the first few weeks, and price gouging was about $50 over msrp. What kind of gouging can we expect with limited quantities if they gouged on a product with plenty of numbers in stock?
May I remind you that the 7800GTX 512mb stayed sold out, even though retailers were gouging it up to $700+?
and where are you hearing this from?Originally Posted by nn_step
