X38 and Areca cards

I heard there was a problem with the x38 and areca cards can anyone confirm/deny this?

I'd like to go X38 but I will not if I can't use my areca card.

areca released a firmware and bios update for all their cards 1.44 http://www.areca.com.tw/support/main.htm which now allows me to get into the bios on my X38.

the only reason the Areca card won't work in any board will be due to the board's bios.

thats true but I've heard rumors that theres problems with the X38 and raid controllers.

It's obvious Intel has done this purposefully to demonstrate that Matrix RAID will have no challengers.

the problem could be the way Intel designed those two 16X slots to work only with video cards

I would like to know what the deal is, as I am waiting for the Quad GT, but will not get it if there are problems with the Areca cards (got the 1210 'cause Ace said it was the bomb! Well, it IS!).

lol only 4 ports please! I wouldn't use anything less then the areca 1230 anymore.

work very fine with GA-X38-DQ6 w/3XRaptors Raid0

Just stumbled upon this thread, although I did post a response in another thread to this very same question. Right now I'm running an Areca 1230ML in the second PCIe X16 slot on my ASUS P5E3 Deluxe WiFI AP@n without any problems. However, originally I tried placing the 1230 in the X4 PCIe slot and this configuration did give me boot up problems for some reason that I have not been able to pin down. I did buy a 3Ware 9650SE controller and was able to run that card just fine in the X4 PCIe slot wihout any issues at all, but the performance is just not the same as the Areca 1230. So after much frustration and wasted time, I finally decided to try the 1230 in the second PCIe X16 slot and was very happy to find that it works there just fine. Hope this helps some of you make a decision.

that's GREAT!...we now have a confirmation on one X38 gigabyte board...if i were to bet, Areca card probably works on Asus!

the areca card is supported in the x38 but... I can't get into the bios via tab.. it just turns the screen blue with nothing on it. I can access the controller via the web interface though.

yes it's running the latest firmware. it still has the same problem.

the newer 0701 bios causes the system to reboot when I try to get into the card bios.

you should feel lucky that Areca provides an HTML program to access the bios from windows...

HTML access is nothing special for an expensive raid controller. Things go much faster when you boot into the bios especially when dealing with a large number of drives.

We had big trouble with 965 and 975x boards, too. I have a whole bunch of controllers, working fine in several socket 939 boards and IIRC none of the 4 socket 775 boards I had would deal with e.g. my 4-channel Adaptec.

I'm ready to support conspiracy theories >= just lazy BIOS writers.
