Talking Its now Final: Intel slashes price on Apr22: Prices of Pentium E/Celeron 400 revealed

    One of the most remarkable cut, Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.40 GHz/4MB L2 x 2/1066MHz FSB), which has been launched on Jan 7, is planned to be cut from $851 to $530, a 37.7% off. Meanwhile, Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6600 (2.4 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) is planned to cut from $530 and $316 to $316 and $224 respectively, a 40.3% and a 29.1% off.

Over and above, though Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6300 (1.83 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) haven’t got too much cut in this plan, says from $224 to $183 (18.3%) and from $183 to $163 (10.9%), Intel would like to give a special gift to this models, a 2MB extra L2 Cache (total 4MB L2 Cache). These 4 MB L2 Cache versions, namely Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6320 (1.83 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB), are going to launch on the same day of price cutting

On the entry-level dual core market, besides Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB), which has been launched on Jan 21, there is another E4400 (2 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB) coming in Q2 2007 set at a price of $133. On the day of E4400’s launch and onward, E4300 will has a new price from $163 to $113, a 30.7% off.

As the marketing replacement of Pentium D, namely Core 2 Duo E4000, has been released, Netburst Pentium D experienced another cut effective from Apr 22, where Pentium D 935(3.2GHz/2MB x 2/800MHz FSB) and Pentium D 925(3GHz/2MB x 2/800MHz FSB) are left only, and their updated prices are cutting from $133 and $113 to $84 and $74 respectively.

The new Pentium E and Celeron 400 are schedule to release in Mid-June. Pentium E2160(1.8GHz/1MB L2/800MHz FSB) and Pentium E2140(1.6GHz/.1MB L2/800MHz FSB) will be the replacement of Pentium D 935 and Pentium D 925. The prices setting for this two are $84 and $74. Also, the prices setting for Celeron D 440(2GHz/512KB L2/800MHz FSB) and Celeron D 430 (1.8GHz/512KB L2/800MHz FSB) are $59 and $49 respectively. According to the testing result from the market, either one could provide a better performance than Celeron 360 running at 3.6 GHz, especially at gaming.

so why is it that an e6600 has a 200 point advantage over an e6400 yet the others, with the same clock speed advantage only get 100 points?

    I assumed it was cache...

but cache is apparently only worth 20 points...

The Q6600 is finally a better price come April, overpriced today. The E4400 with it's 10 multiplier is a good price as well.

wow those are just awesome cuts - i cant wait.

6700 for 316 is a monset cut - same with quad core for $500 bucks!

It's hard not to fall in love with intel right now... when AMD had performance crown they never cut the prices.... and by never i mean hardly ever.

intel didn't either for that matter if I'm not mistaken and AMD's chip still had better bang/$

I think it was more like 3000+ for $180 and Pentium 4 530 for $220, but the AMD was still faster so its a much better deal. Thats in Canada though where the Intel processors seem to always be more expensive...

Dont be suprised if AMD comes with more pricuts themselfes.

    I don't think so.

AMD needs a dual core in the sub 100$ market
AMD needs a similar performing dual cores for the same or less money.

a sub 100 dollar X2 cant be far away.
in europe the X2 3800 (90nm) costs some 85 euro tray. ok thats a lil above 100 dollars but i think when 65nm is widly available and the new top X2 models are rly buyable everywere the x2 3600 will be below 100 dollar.

What i wanna see is a good Core 2 Duo around 100 euro.
Cause the rather cheap X2s and cheap good boards si what persuades people to build budget X2 PCs.

After the price cut, the 4300 will cost around 95 euros, 4400 around 110 euros. If you consider OC-ing, there would be no better bang for the buck than those two.

it is interesting that both INTEL and AMD have a good performance in the characteristic of cpu with a bad performance in report of profits.

    Sweet.

I wonder which will be B1.

Perhaps the 6420/6320 will be old batch 66-6800s, and the 6600-Q6700 will be B1. A guy can hope anyway.

Regardless, hooray for the price cuts. Hello rig overhaul April/May 2007. The complete GF8 series and R6xx series should be around by about that time...

    That is all.

    Peace and love.

Its called crashing the party. Intel's way of burying AMD. AMD has to recoup its R&D costs in the beginning of the product cycle and cannot charge or afford to charge so little for their cpus. Its also a good way to saturate the market with Intel stuff so demand for AMD stuff will be lower when it finally arrives. I see another price cut when K8L finally arrives. Somebody's going to suffer from this, but it won't be the consumers.

Intel has no competition on the quad core sigment, if you want a quad core you will get intel, there are no other options. Cutting prices in that sigment won't gain them market share as currently thats a 100% intel market.

I think we will know a lot more on the 22th of April than we know now... for now I see no logic for intel to cut prices in areas they have no competition
You gain market share by selling all the cpus you can, not just a certain types of cpu. The price cut is across the entire product line to increase demand and market share.

Put the dual cores in the 50-150$ market, the quads - 150-200$ and AMD will be done in less than 2 years IMO. Afterwards intel can do with prices whatever they want Will quickly regain the cash they lost trying to exterminate amd from the "free" market
And instead of building two rigs we will build four
