Overclocking Videocard doing nothing, but does increase Artifacting? whats going on??

I got a power color 9800 pro, and although it overclocks like mad, at 480/380 so far with the stock heatsink...

overclocking with powerstrip doesn't seem to actually do anything.
scores remain nearly the same, from 380/340 to 480/380 does almost nothing, maybe 100 difference, which falls well within the usual 100 point difference that 3dmark always has anyways.

but overclocking the card does increase the artifacting and such past 480 so it's obviously doing something, except I don't see any results at all.

any idea whats going on here?

This will sound like alot of work, but try rage3d.

Powerstrip never seems to actually modify the settings, whenever I use it.

sounds like either your overheating, or your not actually overclocking (i.e. locked bios)
