    Well...

    You know what...
...I just build a new (totally custom case of course) comp for years this week.

I right now started folding a wu (tbh for stress testing)... unfortunately I can't say I'm here to stay, on phorums or folding. One is quite sure, this almost emotional, which isn't normal for me and write about it.

I guess I could shed a one tear to corner of my eye... once I finish this wu.

Anyway I wish all the best equally to XS f@hers

woooo sc00p! hello old man, great to see you turn in a few WUs, funny how we end up here again every few years - wonder what it is that brings us back ?! Oh and you appeared on my stats, only 1.8 years until you overtake hah, we've been around so long that doesn't actually seem like too far away

Great to have sc00p & 5pot on the team if only for a while

Oh man I just got stats-mugged by 5pot; it was like a swift kick in the balls, he emptied my pockets and is long gone already

I have to admit it's because of my excellent stalking skillz No well - I dunno what are my notification settings but I got email notification few weeks back when you replied to this thread.

But I've been building my new rig couple of weeks... I wasn't going to post anything to this thread even if I have had returned my first wus. Just couldn't help myself than saying hello here my old mates. Oh those good old days back then 05-06(?) - before that points hording shenanigans started...

I was just going through active folders user ID-numbers as of to this date. Seems I might have the lowest... meaning I guess been longest around f@h ?

BTW: been playing a lot last couple of days so my production isn't that high yet.

And 5pot... I'd like to have those couple 780 as well. But have to save some money for 770 probably.

jimmiboy I was expecting you to stop by again - and I'm glad you did.

    Brings back few good memories...

sc00p you are getting up to speed a bit with your PPD there... I was worried, even if you say you're not here for long...

.. sat down for a little think and a cup of tea, then it hit me... there's an old [largely unused] multi-display PC at work, wonder what the spec is... had a look it's got an i7-970, 6Gb and 3x nVidia 430GT in, a bit weak but hopefully this can help fight my corner a bit

Spent an hour dusting the old girl down, and installing updates & drivers etc. One of the system fans & one of the GPU fans are dying, but I think I can bodge it together and hang onto it in my office for a while.

You're right about the F@H software: when I think of all the faffing & tweaking we used to do getting it configured nicely; now I just run the program and it's got 3x GPU clients churning WUs within 30 secs

There are still some tweaks you can do for the beta units and stuff but yeah, pretty simple anymore. I certainly do not miss fighting the old client for an hour or two, watching it burn units with that horribly annoying "UNSTABLE_MACHINE" error when you know full well the PC is not unstable! I know that old client drove more than a few people away.

Jimwah... did you burn to death that multi-display pc?

Seems that in 16 days I might overtake you...

I never burned wus with that old f@h client... but with this new I had to back off my oc abit because the folding crashes...

I don't think it is the client, just sounds like it was a little too high an OC. I had burned WUs in the past on the old client when I pushed too far.

Yeah the old girl doesn't kick out the points quite as well as I hoped, well they are only 430GT's I suppose! She can't keep up with a 40k ppd sc00p We have little pep talks, I feed her a few orange segments, and towel the sweat off her brow; but it still takes her 3 or 4 days to work through these WU, then she curls out 40k points unexpectedly and goes back into hiding for the rest of the week!

Without spending some $$$ I'm not sure I can avoid getting overtaken!

Thunderstorms and excessive heat gave some room to breath to Jim... I'll continue the chase next week :p

Yet it's great you - Jim - found those gpus cooperative for your (and of course scientific) cause

Yeah have a little space now, and some old names to overtake this week too : kingcarcas & WindForce The GPU cores have got well out of sync and picking up different WU now, so that's helped 'smooth out' the points a bit here.

Had a hectic morning, print server kicked up a big problem and needed an emergency migration (not the best way to migrate domains, but it worked ) nice to chill for 2 minutes and check the points with a cup of tea, have kinda missed folding over the last few years !

Dammit sc00p! Not much I can do about it either - bah! At least we're both top 50 now - I'm trying to put a positive spin on this

Yeah man, I'm almost sorry to overtake you - nah j/k my upgrades kicked in...

...what's ridiculous is that it took years of folding to reach my first million...

...and the second came in month ...which just means I guess that latest gpus really have some scientific computing power in them...

...and positive thing that we are doing some positive things with our idle cycles of our computers - or least trying...

Crazy isn't it, I used to have a set of shelves covered in old machines, maybe 7/8 old towers, and would be doing well to get 5k ppd! Kept the place warm in winter though :P If it scales how it appears in the points, then yeah we are really crunching some serious data on GPU these days

Still got my scrappy old 3x nvidia 430 'multiscreen' rig running here, not sure how much longer I can keep it locked away in IT, someone will notice it's gone soon I'm sure Will have to find another GPU or two soon as backup plan!

that's what i noticed too - my GTX-690 puts out almost 200k (consistantly - or at least when my PC's working :P). my old i7-965 (Nehalem), and the 3 other CPUs i can run, both GTX-285's, and the 8800GTS *might* put out 50k (probably much less in all likelyhood though - i don't even think any of the GPUs contribute any more). hell, even my 3930 (SB-e) only puts outs less than 50k!! @100% utilization - and that means i'm limiting my GPU throughput considerably. a single 680 could likely do very close to 100k ppd all by its lonesome (or a 7980 if AMD is your flavor - for about $100 less than a 680). with todays GPU WUs giving bonus points, it's a no-brainer. get yourself a 600 series card (or later) (not sure if the 500 series gets the bonus point WUs?) to replace all the old machines and go make some ppd!!

Hey guys. Long time, no see.

I've finally moved out of that other house. The rental I'm in now basically can't handle my desktop. I have a window unit just to keep my room cool. Folding will turn my house into a furnace. I might crank it up when the temps drop. Louisiana seems to be going into an early fall. I've never seen temps this low for this time of year. Should be interesting.
    You must [not] advance.

Early fall here. We keep having summer try and come back, but then a couple days later and it is 60s again and 40s at night!

must be global warming /sarcasm off/ sorry, couldn't help myself

glad you were able to get away from the black mold (nasty stuff!!) - i hope this place serves you well - aside from the apparent lack of cooling ability. my guess is, it will be pretty rough when summer rolls back around? are you planning to be here a while, or building new? either way, i hope it works out for you!! (and, of course, i hope you can keep folding whenever possible )

sounds (exactly) like here in Germany!! it's been cool for almost a month now, and then this weekend it gets up to a sunny 60 or so. i woke up this morning (after finally turning on all the heat in the house) and it was nice and toasty - or at least it didn't get as cold as i thought it would lol. i actually ran outside for PT this morning since it was so "warm."
