second hand for £40, around $77.50. Do you people think that would be worth it, or no? it would be nice to game at 1920 x 1440....

For £40 I wouldn't bother with it personally. If I were to spend cash on a crt nowadays it would have to be the flat sony screened 21" one's.

Its cheap for the money, but the 19" CRT I have is hardly readable at 1280*1024. So running it at that high res might not be what like you imagine it to. I would get a 17 or 19" BenQ for around 180usd. Less power consumption, great panel.
+ you would need serious video card power to game in 1920*1440 with everything set to max.

note the recommended resolution of it is 1280x1024. Pixel pitch is .26 which is a bit large iirc.... .22 seems a better value to me.

Josh, I wouldn't do it and save up for a decent LCD. I have a 19" CRT as well, and it isn't bad for gaming, but modern LCD's are just so much better

my 17" BenQ V772 CRT is rated for a max of 1280x1024, but itwill do 1920x1440 too, except at like 30Hz and the image looks like crap..On the other hand, my 8-9 year old 19" Sony Trinitron is only rated upto 1600x1200, but it does 2048x1563 without a problem. If you are going to get a CRT, go with a Trinitron, or some other kind of high end tube.

Don't even bother, those buzzing heaters are a thing of the past. Save your dough and wait for a deal on a cheap LCD, even the flakiest of LCD panels will destroy that CRT in image quality. LCD FTW plus thing of all the deskspace you'll save

I think that says it all. With 4 sytems and this 19" CRT I was able to heat up the entire room today to 23C/74F. That was with a window open and outside air being only 5C... Please take in mind that this 19" screen I have consumes 800W when heating up, and 100W when running. You could use that for another cruncher .

If you do really want to do 1920x1440 or that sort of Res, I would save and get a DiamondTron NF/Trinitron with a flat tube. I have had 3 Diamondtron (not flat) and they have all been amazing monitors. I now have a 19" Iiyama, and when you switch it on for the first time, all the lights dim in the room as it heats up! They are some hungry beasts!

I do already have an 19" TFT, I was just wondering if that was a "good deal" or not. Seems the general consensus is no.

Games would probably look better at 1280x1024 with max effects then at very high res with no effects anyway...
