EK FC8800 GTX Delrin MINI REVIEW

I got the EK FC8800 with delrin top 2 days ago. I must say that I totally agree with Ithcandos. Very nice quality build and installation is a piece of cake with the supplied manual. I installed mine on my XFX Geforce 8800 GTX with AS5 on the core and AS Ceramique on the memory ( I've back in the days when AS3 was hot, damaged a geforce3 with AS3 on the mem, so I don't trust using silver on the mem )

Temps. measured after approx. 30mins of gaming:
Room temp is 22C

At stock speed (576/900) the card is 49C idle and 57 load
At OC speed (700/1100) the card is 51Cidle and 59C load
With stock cooler and with stock speeds the card was 60C idle and up to 87C load

After I installed the GPU waterblock from EK, my CPU temps increased 6C

I really put my little BIP2 rad. with 800rpm(12v) fans at hard work. I have never felt my rad that hot before.

Looks like you're gonna have to invest in some more cooling power i.e. better rad, stronger fans, aftermarket top for your pump if you haven't got one already.

It looks like it:

At stock speed (576/900) the card is 49C idle and 57 load
At OC speed (700/1100) the card is 51Cidle and 59C load
With stock cooler and with stock speeds the card was 60C idle and up to 87C load

That's a pretty decent overclock with a lower (albeit 1 degree) temp at load than the stock cooler at idle. I know my GTX can't do that on air. Those are decent enough temps given his overall system.

My Pump uses a Alpacool Pro top.

I'm perfectly aware of my cooling, my rad. is a bit too little I think.

Before with stock HSF I was able to OC my XFX 8800GTX to 660/1030, now I can OC ( so far ) 700/1100. The extra heat doesn't put back my OCing on the CPU. I run a vcore of v1.55. Yes I know thats quite a lot, but my C2D is power hungry!

I'm currently thinking about investing in a BI GTX360 rad, and 3 * Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 1600rpms. It should help a little ;-)

The reason his temps are as high as they are is because is radiator is saturated. It doesn't have the dissipation capabilities necessary to handle the heatdump of an entire 8800GTX card, dual core cpu, both overclocked and probably overvolted. He probably mounted the block just fine, but his temperature deltas are high, and even his idles are high because his rad is simply choking.

I find it hard to believe that his radiator is saturated. The BIP can dissipate up to almost 3000BTU's an hour or 800Wh. It sounds to me like the fan being used to cool the radiator is not cooling to BIP and allowing the radiator to do its job.

I would try replacing the fan on the radiators to more beefy fans that can blow more air across it. I would also check and make sure that your contact is correct like everyone else states. That could be the issue.

Ehm, my rad is choking a little 'cus the fans attached on it, are only running 800rpms. Maybe my temps are a little high, but not that high! Some of you almost sound like I'm having catastrophically high temps. Well I'm not, and I can't expect any better with my rad and fans. The most important thing, my system runs 100% stable and VERY silent, and that is kind of the idea about the whole WCing thing, and I'm so far ( stopped experimenting ) running 700MHz on the core of my XFX 8800GTX, and as far as I know, thats pretty damn good!

What is your WC setup?

I'm almost 100% sure that I have good contact on the GPU, I cheked it a couple of times actually, before I installed it in my water loop.

So you are saying that I should be at 40C idle, with my rad and fans at 800rpms only? See spec. below. Pump is with Aplhacools pro top.

if your actual rad is warm to the touch, its saturated. fact.

example, back when i first started WC, i had a swiftie dual rad. was fine for cpu, and gpu. then i put in sli'ed overclocked cards and it began to struggle. warm air all the time, changed orientation of rad, turned up fans a lil bit, but rad was still warm.

then i got a thermochill pa, and now, it doesnt matter whats in the loop, the temps are optimal, the air that slowly moves thru the rad isnt warm and hte casing of the rad is cool to the touch.

And to my surprice... - there was perfect contact!

Contact might be perfect, but a little to much paste applied, IMO.
I'd remove the paste from the block and then reinstall it.

getting 46C idle 54C load @ 700/1100MHz
helped just a bit

Definately look into getting a PA120.3 or something similar. A more powerful rad is the only way you'll cut those temps. But heh...they aren't really that bad. Most of the guys on air are seeing 80-90C load temps, so loading in the 50s sounds fine to me.
