Seriously. It's amazing. Just use the Via Vinyl 500b drivers instead of the ones that came on the CD, and it'll be the best $30 you've ever spent.

I'm going to be getting the best sound card w/ breakout in existence, soon.

    TerraTec Aureon 7.1 Universe

It'll work in linux, and in windows, it's made with some of the best components (the breakout box could be better shielded, but I think I can come up with a solution to that), and unless you're a music producer or an extreme gamer, it has everything you could ever need. 8-channel output, input enough for any mildly curious enthusiast, and digital outputs for if you lean that way.

For good non gaming audio it has to be either terratec or chaintech.... you definitely do not need an xfi if you're not in it for gaming sounds.

Er...you can't improve mp3 quality, sorry to break it to you. Almost ALL sound cards are able to deliver the "heart-pounding" 128kbps with no problem, so one won't sound better than the other.

For better sound quality, download better MP3s (192+, V0, etc.) THEN you can look to fine tune it with a good soundcard.
