    What MOBO?!?

Whats a good motherboard for my computer. I want a board that has good chipset and OC ability. Any info would be nice. My computer components are listed in my Sig. I would like to get a new mobo cause my intel board just dont got the ability. The board im using currently is a Intel D915PCY I bought the board as a last minute resort when building my PC. I intially bought the ABIT Fatal1ty board and it was a total bogus board. Now after 2 years of having the pc i just cant stand my intel board anymore and need tips on a good board for my p4 550 3.4.

Also how high of a mhz at a stable rate have you seen the p4 550 chip run?

If you are just thinking of replacing the MOBO only, try gettng the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3, or Asus P5B-E (PLUS or non-PLUS). These MOBOs overclock well and will also leave you with an upgrade path for Conroe later.

Thanks for the info but do you happen to know of any SLi ready boards?
I plan on setting my computer for SLi in the near future and dont want to be replacing the board yet again. I own a Leadtek px6800gt tdh and i want to find the same card and run the SLi. I have been extremely satisfied with my 6800 and feel i will be even happier with the SLI setup. Something i have been wanting to do for some time now.

The only ones I know are based on the Nvidia 590 or 680. Those based on 590 do not overclock well and hence Nvidia pulled them off the line. Those based on 680 could at best be call Release Candidate (some may beg to differ I reckon) at this stage due to SATA and RAID problems. See "Nvidia’s High-End Chipset Under Fire for Problems" (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/chipset...14235359.html).

For Crose-Fire, there is the Asus P5B-Delux, but it is CF certified, not Nvidia type of SLI certified.

I know it is going to be hard to convince you not to SLI but I am going to try... Since you are already satisfied with your 6800GT, why not live with it for say another 6 months or so? DX10 ready (e.g., Nvidia 8x00 series) will become more mainstream by then and prices will become more reasonable. I am sure you have read elsewhere of what a single 8800 can do.

Well said..... I would NOT buy another 6800 series card for SLI. Hell, get the P5B-DLX or DS3 and slap a 7900GTO in there, and you will have more graphics power then what those 2 6800 series cards could EVER deliver.

Yes, it is quite safe to say that SLI is a "for the moment's pleasure" thing - that is, when you must absolutely have the best-of-the-best eye candy that money can buy for the moment.

Every so few months, the power of graphics cards would improve so much. If your rig had just one graphic card to begin with, it is hardly worth investing on another legacy card of the same model sometime down the line to complete the SLI - that is, unless someone tosses you a used one for a price next to nothing.

I'd have the say a DFI infinity 975 x/g they hit 400FSB relatively easily with their new BIOS.

how much headroom do you need on that p4? 400FSB=6.8GHz out of that thing. Unless you're going for WR runs that is plenty.

you can also run SLi on this board, albeit you need hacked drivers.

    PHENOM II x4 720 @3.5Ghz // GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P // 4GB DDR2-800 4-4-4 // hd4870 512mb // CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX // ZEROtherm Nirvana // Intel X25-M 80gb // 2 * WD 640GB

Besides the cost, like I've said earlier, it is not just for his P4, if he chooses a E6300 (like you do), E6400, or even a E6600/E4300 later, he is going to need a lot of FSB.
