    Post P5B-Deluxe VS P5B-E Plus

Just got my P5B-E Plus mobo, installing it right now. I hope it will clock better than my P5B-Dlx, allthough I have seen that the overclockability is majorly dependant on the cpu. Both mobo's are retail and cpu week 26 will be cooled by TT120.

    First some pics

Things that first noticed me are: Both boards use same PCB, except P5B-E Plus has no second PCI-E, only 4x slot PCI-E soldered below, only half (4 vs 8) the power regulators for cpu, aluminium heatsinks instead of copper and different shapes (no heatpipes for example). Also weird is that the NB is a week 26 which afaik is quite old, but I'm still hoping it's a C2. So far it is looking better for the Deluxe. First I'm gonna have dinner, I'll post results later. That is if I don't blow up anything

    Edit: what's the difference of C1 E-Plus and C2 E-Plus?

C2 tends to be slightly faster and is claimed to overclock better.

Ok I just installed the board and booted up. I didn't have to reinstall ANY drivers lol, this board is exactly the same as the P5B Dlx. even my audigy 2 which is often so picky even when changing pci slots now just works immediately.

Oh and good news it's a C2, just checked with cpu-z Now time for some ocing... now I really hope this cpu can do more!!

Can you read what numbers you got above the DIMM slots? Like 1.01G?
    Intel FTW!

Sorry forgot to tell. The P5B-Dlx is rev 1.03G and the E Plus is rev 1.01G. However has nothing to do with the chipset used, as there are rev 1.01G's with C1 chipset and vice versa. only way to know is to use cpu-z or check under NB cooler.

Anyway I'm priming @ 500FSB now, and that with my Radeon in the upper slot. That means it has beaten the P5B-Dlx already which only would run 500FSB in PCI-E 4x mode (not verified yet). Also not even using active NB cooling (well I used AS5 instead of the chewing gum goop) yet or maximum volts!

I thought only the P5B-E "plus" model had the solid caps?

Hhmm pretty disappointed. Still stuck at 500FSB, everything over that and it does not boot or isnt stable. It must be the CPU. Besides that, the stupid PCI-E x1 bug has come back. what was the solution to it can't remember?

Try using lower multiplier, eliminates cpu from being a bottleneck.

Changing the voltages manually instead of auto....

Nope. Looks like this model will not hit the US. Instead, I think we'll get the "Commando" model, with all the Republic of Gamers stuff that Asus is pushing. I'd rather have a low-cost alternative to Gigabyte's DS3 however. I'm sure the Commando will be more than the P5B-DLX

Yeah its too bad because that P5B-E Plus really has everything covered in a basic overclocking board. I wish more manufacturers would put solid caps on boards.

    L626 could most probably be a C1.
    I have a P5B-E Plus (rev 1.01G) here and its L637... C2 for sure =)
    However, I couldn't get it to hit 500FSB on my E6300... =(

    Happy Clocking!

Not surprising if you're using 7x.

    Nice comparison mate.

Thing is, the P5B-E Plus is only 20-30$ cheaper here in Sweden. As the P5B-E Plus isn't O/Cing better than the DLX, there isn't any reason to go that way... or am I missing something?

I have serious problems with this mobo('s settings).

If I OC even a little (FSB 266->280) my computer goes braindead. Coolers and hd's start but monitor doesn't go on. It just doesn't want to start. I have to do manual bios reset te get this thing running after that.

Voltages are on auto except vdimm and memory divider is 3:5. They might have something to do with this? Any other possible reasons for this very weird behavior?

    Btw, week 27 and C2.

Hm I believe P5B-E Plus clocks better then P5B DLX, but that's probably if P5B DLX is a C1.
I went for the P5B-E Plus and it was pretty nice atleast for the couple of hours I worked with it until some of my hw died
    Intel FTW!
