When I was in high school, I think the must-have gadget was a Bowman calculator. I preferred my slide rule though.
My niece has my Ivory Slide Ruler that mu father gave me in Junior Year HS. I could do Cube roots and square roots and logs (both base e and base 10 ) faster than the rich dumb asses that had calculators.
I dont own a cell phone either, neither did I have a beeper while at work.
And yes I remember the red engine cart , I used to carry the BOXES of punched cards I needed for my statisticl projects. I was lucky that when I went for my MA, I became a ressearch assistant which granted me the privilege of having work study kids to punch and recheck my cards for punching errors.
