I also wanted to clarify some other questions that have been posed:
I said:
Myself (and afireinside and others here) had problems with the old mushkin ownership sending out bad RMAs (dead TCCD/ BH5 with parts falling off) and I know that others here @ XS had these problems. I want to say that mushkin has clearly gone out of the way to fix these and that I have been over 110% satisified with all the help everyone @ mushkin is, they know me by a first name basisI REALLY hate to cite Mushkin for doing good things, and even they are not confusing on what you are getting.
The problem isn't necessarily going from IC's made by Micron to IC's made by promos.
The problems are, in no specific order:
The fact that Promos is obviously cheaper. There is enough evidence from Corsairs other lines that use Promos, other brands that use Promos with the same specs. This is obviously some form of bait and switch.
There is no change in the actual name. Dominator 6400C4D. Rather than using some revision number to indicate a change in IC manufacturer, it should be in the actual name. For Example, 6400C4E or 6400C4D.2 or something far more noticeable so that everyone will know that they are not the same stuff. Hiding what actually changed in the revision number on some forum that is somewhat hard to read just doesn't cut it.
The third problem is that Corsair has been doing this since 2001. Perhaps even before that, I only know because that's when I started paying attention to what IC's are on the sticks and Corsair would change IC's, keep the model number the same and only change the revision number. RMA something and you'd get a different rev. number with cheaper, crappier IC's. I RMA'd some stuff that had winbond and got some other crap back that could barely run at stock speeds and obviously OC'd like crap.
Cosmos S | Corsair HX1000 | Core i7 920 | DFI X58 | 12GB Super Talent DDR3 1333 Samsung HCH9 | 3x HIS Radeon HD7970 IceQ 2 | VelociRaptor 300GB | BD-RW
TFC360 | HeatKiller 3.0 CPU w/ Koolance Backplate | 2xPMP450S | Koolance 450x2 dual bay res | Swiftech MCR220 + MCR220 Stack | 3x Heatkiller HD7970 Waterblocks | Enzotech NB
It probably would be best to stick micron chips on certain product lines (6400C4D) and then promos or other chips on different lines (6400C4)
That way the consumer can feel that they know what they are buying.
Just like what OCZ do...
Their 6400 Plats were never micron based, but their 7200EPP were always micron... but when they ran out of micron they stopped producing that particular module.
Im mentioning this, because i get very frustrated hunting for good D9 based ram... have bought 4 sets and so far no luck... but I also dont want to spend > AUD $500 either
Got my 6400C4D last night...v2.1 They are going back and I am now getting some crucial Ballistix PC1000 that are on sale. I like the way the dominators look but for the same price I want some MICRON.
Agreed, it really is shady. In fact smarmy is a better word for it. Sending eval modules out with the good stuff for reviews only to quickly switch to the junk soon after for the average joe to purchase is as smarmy as it gets. I am now going with an OCZ psu and super talent ram after this customer relations debacle. They lost $450 from me.
Rule #1: ALWAYS be honest and forthcoming with a customer and don't try to trick them.
Yes OCz does it the best way imo, if the ic's are gone, so is the memory model.
We have some information and an offer for those of you who feel like you were misled. Please read this thread.

That's a good start, but you ought to be offering them for an even trade if you wanted to make it right.
Or at least a huge discount for the hassle.Originally Posted by astrodave

Every case will be handled on an individual basis. If people that actually bought our memory could contact Redbeard and then comment, I think that would be most helpful. "Me too" isn't really helping here and we can only help you if you contact George.
Many thanks in advance.

anything crucial is D9 and anything team is D9. G.Skill HZ is D9 and Mushkin XPS (black heatspreader or redline series) is D9.Originally Posted by loafer87gt

Guys, if a company GUARANTEES a specific IC, please post EVIDENCE of this, not just a statement.
astrodave: define what, in your opinion, "even trade" means.
As for Crucial, Micron owns them, so they damn well had better use their ICs LMAO!
This is either a manufacturer or distributor guarantee:

This memory I would buy, but I'm still waiting for a response about the 8500C5D deal with George though.

does team or cell shock have websites, and if so, do they post this info there? (didn't find a webpage for either company, albeit I didn't search that hard lol) While a store's webpage is certainly better than a random post, I know NewEgg still posts incorrect information on memory specs, so I personally don't trust even the big stores for 100% accurate info, I go right to the manufacturer.
I think you know hw to contact team or cellshock and ask them what ICs they useOriginally Posted by Wired-HoH

Booth are the first choice I think you should learn how to use Google first
you can check the products and download the compatibility sheet you will find that micron D9 is stated there
Intel Core I7 920 @ 3.8GHZ 1.28V (Core Contact Freezer)
Asus X58 P6T
6GB OCZ Gold DDR3-1600MHZ 8-8-8-24

I know how to use google just fine, however I was searching for "cellshock memory" and "team memory", different results
Cellshock does indeed list "Micron 64Mx8" on the product page of all of their DDR2 memory (3 models), and Team Xtreem does indeed list "Micron D9" on the compatibility sheets of all of their "DDR2 Dual Channel" memory.

Why should I have to post evidence when there is evidence posted all over this thread, this forum, the guides, manufacturer websites etc for the modules I mentioned. Not to mention countless pictures of heatspreaders removed with clearly defined D9GMH/D9GKX branding on the ICs and email snipits from inquiry to the manufacturer.Originally Posted by Wired-HoH

I have contacted Corsair and requested an exchange with the 8500C5's. I was told to show my invoice which I did.
I then was sent a return slip that allows me to get the 8500C5's. I don't expect them to "GIVE" me 8500C5's for the price of the 6400C4's. I am willing to make this exchange and happily so.
As a newly created member I understand also that some might question who I am. You may find me at Overclock.net as Ropey and you will see who I am.
Regards to all,

I have 2GB of 6400C4D for about a week now, and they seem to perform like 667 Modules at stock settings.
Mine are V. 1.2 not v.2.1 like those of DerekT. They were assembled in July 2006, and yet from reading these forums and others: the Dominators are fast sellers; and they can't keep up with the demand! I wonder if mine ( bought a week ago) are not refurbished/returns? I don't know what to make of it (old Version, 5 months old...)
