    i'm stuck

i am having serious weird problems with my ram. it will only boot at tcl=2, but not 2.5, 3.0, etc. it's mushkin level ii (samsung tccd), so you can see how that's a problem.

i can post and memtest fine with tcl=2.5+ (up to 270+ mhz) but as soon as i try to boot an os it freaks. linux or windows, same thing

any ideas? i had a thread over at dfi-street but we came up empty. i tried a few bios revs.

    mushking level ii

    pc p&c silencer

    thanks.

Some RAM sticks just don't like some cas timings. I had some CH-6 that would do 2-3-2-5 but it would never run cas 2.5 or cas 3 no matter what I threw at it.

i happen to have some mushkin level II TCCD sticks, they boot fine at 2.5 cas. Mine are of the early batch, jedec pcb, not brainpowers.. but i'd think they all should do cas 2.5 with no issues. Unless of course that is a symtom of them going bad like rgone said :?

they've always sucked, actually so i dunno. i have a thread going looking for a nice 2x1gb set, so maybe i'll just kill them once i get some new stuff. i haven't pushed the vdimm over 2.8 (i think) so i dunno. i did rip the heat spreaders off though.

    final try

DOES ANYONE know why it would memtest perfectly normal but just never work with the os at anything but 200mhz cas2? is there a sata setting i've missed? anything? should i use ports 3&4 instead of 1&2?

if it can only run cas 2, sounds like it might be a Winbond chip

i have my heat spreaders ripped off, it's tccd.

remember, it behaves exactly like tccd until i try to boot my os. memtest is fine at 2.5-3-3-7 over 275mhz+, but once i boot windows it must be cas 2 @ 200mhz.
