So the E6400 does between 3.2 and 3.6Ghz depending on your luck and other hardware (cooler, ram, motherboard).

I often saw people say the E6600 is not worth the money over the E6400 because the E6400 can overclock to E6600 speeds easily. But... E6600 can overclock as well. What speeds can be expect from E6600, and do you think they would be worth it? (Especially with the new 8800 cards, where CPU speed matters more then before)

E6600 and 6400 will usually top out at same area, at least on air... it depends on the max fsb of your mobo, if you want to have 975x then 6600 is minimum...

but if you have a 965 that can do 500fsb 6400 is a good chip. However 975 and 6600 will still perform better.

Also, if you are going with some exotic cooling like phase change, you may want a 6600 on 965, or 6700 on 975.

Mass. We have no control of the heat in the dorms, so it just blasts. Even in winter, we have fans going and the windows wide open.

As were michigan's dorms, used to have the window open in the winter.

Nice thread though, been thinking of getting a e6300/6400.

    My E6400(628A) does 3.2ghz on 1.4V but didn't test higher. (P5B deluxe)
But i know my E6300(629A) did 3.5ghz on 1.45-1.5V and that with stock intel cooler on regular P5B.
The P5B vanille clocked higher in fsb then my dlx. But most get 3.2-3.6ghz with 'regular cooling'.
