I Think it's just fair that they make it vista-only.

If I had a DX10 card right now I'd give it a try with the current version of Vista that im running since it has DX10 as well.

I got both but..
1. There are no g80 drivers out for vista yet?
2. There are no real directx 10 out yet(correct?)
3. No dx10 demo to try it on...
1) Well I can see this. Waiting for the drivers will suck.Originally Posted by vakuum
2) If DX10 is in the OS why wouldn't it be out yet? Its there the question does it more or less function or activated in the beta's.
3) There are games out that run DX10. FSX does, if your in beta for Supreme Commander it has DX10 functionality (don't know if its enabled in the beta though but from the sounds of the devs its there).

I hope Nvidia releases a dx10 version of the lovely geoforms demo.
Well i hate how on the 8800 series boxes it says built for vista, but i had to take out my 8800 when i installed the latest vista because it shows as a generic videocard and there is no drivers to work with vista yet so mis advertising there.. My GX2 only has limited support as well and it has been out for over 3 months and still no real driver support.
the 8800 vista driver is supposed to be ready this week

Ok, this is what i think, VISTA is a nice looking OS, hogs alot of ram but its nice and expected since people now a days like what looks good on the outside, but its right, 5 years since windows XP, XP was a good OS, and vista just like XP will grow on you in time..........give it till january and feb for some official drivers, so far im waiting on some real drivers for my X-FI as the betas suck, the audioCS doesnt work at all.....nvidia im sure will release some new official drivers soon.
well me myself is waiting for XS OS from nn_step with DX10 support and XP keys
Soon to be :

i personally dont like linux either, probably i never gave it a real chance.
Nvidia drivers suck at the moment but no wonder they are beta. Artifacts in 3dmark and only 1 partially playable resolution in UT2004
...
yeah, you can do lots of fun stuff with linux, like time sheets, spreadsheets, and pie charts.Originally Posted by xlink

They should make DirectX cross-platform so i can dump Windows.Originally Posted by vakuum
Even if the dont want to make DirectX cross-platform, then its still stupid to make it Vista only. Nobody wants to replace an allready paid windows XP for Vista only for DirectX10. Microsoft just wants ouer money again
And about D9L, i hope D9L will come out, or M$ really sucks.

Also. note that ms is making a special dx9L for vista.
If they did the same thing with dx10 for xp, then they had to make 2 versions each time the dx api gets updated.

You obviously haven't tried vista yet... Trust me its worth the upgrade, albeit the price is almost a joke (but then again my XP Pro has given me just over 4 years of fun so I think it may be worth it )

Hey, i'm vista fanboy, not linux :p
Sorry if my post came out the other way..
For me its about the Operating system i want to use.Originally Posted by eXceededgoku

So i have to buy Windows because of DirectX, which i will not buy.
If they would make an DirectX layer for Linux and Mac then i would be happy to buy it. DirectX could be a an API within a program to run games, just as Cedega. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedega
Ontopic:
I'm curious if there will be much DX10 games in the first year of DX10. Must upcoming games are still DX9. Dont want to upgrade my VGA within 6months

I would hate to see M$ make it vista only my buddy has on of the final revisions and says theres alot he doesnt like about vista. So i'm not quite sure if I'll be jumping the vista bandwagon but if its the only way to get dx10 guess i'll have too
Did Nvidia put out any DX10 demos to give us a little taste?
Vista is such an unappealing upgrade
