i love bringing this thread from the dead

anyway whilst looking for a 8800gt i wonder upon this gem:

Be Very Careful 1/15/2008 1:35:19 PM

Pros: This is a great vga card. It is a very slim card for an 8800.

Cons: OK. HERE IT IS! I really feel stupid. I bought this card for my son's new gaming system I built. Got Newegg's Windows XP oem version. DIRECTx10 DOES NOT SUPPORT XP!!!! It is for Window's VISTA only! SO ... I warned ya. Microsoft has no intention of supporting XP with DirectX10. Gee .. I wonder why more & more people are becoming anti-Microsoft?

Other Thoughts: I am a fairly knowledgeable builder who has usually studied hard all the changes in the industry. I got caught napping on this. I have built about a dozen systems from the 90's until now.
thats a very long nap how long have "we" ie the community, known no dx10 in xp?

Pros: It's a nice laptop... But the price is not justified. I've personally used MacBook Pro and I have to say that I'm not satisfied (by used I mean I've run games on it and used it for more than 30 minutes, which is plenty of time to get a grasp of general performance). The OS is nice, and so is the computer, but thats about all.

Cons: For about $100 more you can get a Dell XPS (sorry for the deluded guy below that said it'd outperform them) that has virtually the same specs but two Nvidia 8700M in SLI with an additional physics card. This isn't a con about the computer in general, just that for the performance, this is over priced... WAY over priced.

Other Thoughts: To the guy that said it has a 1920x1200 resolution, stop lying. 1920x1200 resolutions are only on 24"+ LCD screens. Folks, save your money. If you NEED Mac, get a cheaper MacBook with no upgrades, MacBook Pros ARE NOT WORTH THE MONEY!

    Off topic, I know:

I don't know if this is kosher, but it's as funny as any review on Newegg!

the newegg reviews i hate the most are the ones that give a product 1 egg because it shipped to them broken, or not working properly, or shipped late (anything that causes the product to perform incorrectly)... that has nothing to do with the performance of the product! when someone is looking for some hardware and wants to know, by ratings, what works the best... the actual review is skewed by the artards who gave it bad reviews when THEY NEVER ACTUALLY USED THE PRODUCT! >.< random shipping problems or doa's are to be expected with electronics... just RMA it and give a review when u get to try out a working one!

    Maximus Extreme.

Pros: Lots of features. Cost effective DDR2 memory. Installed WXP and RHEL5 quickly with all required drivers.

    Review of QX6850

    Jsharbour
    Ownership: 1 week to 1 month 2/7/2008 9:20:52 PM What's the point?

    Pros: fast

Cons: What's the point? 1333 FSB, 8MB L2. Just overclock a Q6700 for half the price, or a Q6600 for 1/4 the price.

    Turkish
2/27/2008 7:43:23 PM Response to Jsharbour

Pros: Sorry to inform Mr. or Mrs. Arbour, but I have/had a q6600 and it only allows a multiplier between 6-9. It is stock at 9 so the only OC you can do is to the FSB in which case you can't push it near as high as an extreme which has a fully unlocked multiplier. The Q6700 is no different except the stock multiplier is set to 10 so again, purely FSB OC. If you want to really push your OC abilities go with an extreme, that's what I did

Cons: power hungry, need good cooling, other voltages have to be cranked into the red-zone.

Other Thoughts: Awesome processor, would have gone with the 45nm but many sites list incompatibility, besides whats wrong with this thing at 3.6, trust me its stupid fast

WOW, 3.6ghz !!! Surely you cannot get a q6600 to go that fast by only increasing the fsb

Pros: DDR3 ram is the fastest ram ive seen, it actually keeps up with the rest of my computer, my entire computer can now run at 1333 mhz with core 2 duo 3ghz overclocked to about 3.2ghz wich is enough. got four raided hard drives which run at 3 gigabytes a sec each. Corsair ram as always comes with great reliability and stability.

Cons: expensive but prices will eventually drop

    Other Thoughts: so fast

    some silly ones here.

Pros: Not sure, haven't been able to use it.

Cons: I plugged this in, and the entire block blacked out. Also, my computer exploded and set my chair alight.

Other Thoughts: 2000 watts is abnormally large. Just like the PSU.

Also, my computer exploded and set my chair alight.
For some reason I believe that part...
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."
