Modern Ram, makes an old overclocker miss BH-5 and the fun it was
@nn_step: THX =D...but their opterons are @270dollars...=(
@Magnj: hum?

Well Picking a Stepping has always had a price premium

Lots of places have these cheap right now, as they are EOL as far as I know - so they're trying to blow out inventory. I don't have any physical inventory, so I don't have to use rock-bottom prices to get rid of anything
If I can get a CCBBE 0617FPMW for 185 shipped...would that be a wise investment? I have VX Gold right now that does 260 2-2-2-8 but my current chip cant do anything above 2-3-2-8 at any speed and Oc's to only 2550 stable. A Quick search shows these chips hitting 3000... So should I drop the cash now...or is it a better idea to wait a few months and go AM2?
IF BUDGET IS TIGHT and you have descent hardware NOW.Originally Posted by Magnj

Alright, I mean I can get it and it won't hurt the wallet too too bad...but the fact is I don't NEED it. I'm actually running my chip stock atm just to make sure it keeps chuggin along for school...
If someone wants the link to that chip PM me
Ahap..but what about the processor of monarchs..have you got wich stepps do they are?
not much point in wasting money on the current AMD's, why not use the money for a c2d instead????
Cause, Im selling my opteron 148 here in Chile for the same price Im gona buy the 165..inverting only in shipping 20bucks.....you can see that that is a cheap and nice upgrade
.but what about the processor of monarchs..have you got wich stepps do they are?!!!!!!!!!!11
from monarch or the greater majority of online stores, you wont know what the stepping is going to be.
your best bet, is to look in the forums and try to find one there.
it seems alot of people are selling good stepping/overclocking cpu's because of upgrading to conroe systems.
You are right, but Im from Chile, Im forced to buy in a online store, thats why Im asking about the last steppings that have been lately in monarch..
I'd like to know what's the hottest stepping available currently? (Not talking about temps, you know) I may need to get one.
I don't check my PMs very often.
Dang that opty is tempting! Money is tight tho...

monarch will not tell you what stepping is being shipped. inventory is being cleaned out so the stepping won't be consistent anyway. might get 0543, might get 0609, might get 0617, it's a total shot in the dark. i wouldn't recommend buying from monarch anyway.Originally Posted by Bazikstano

As almost everyone has recently been getting 165s instead of 170s, we don't really know much about the newer 2006 steppings of the 170, thus we don't know how they overclock. We DO know that weeks 0610, 0615 and 0617 of the 165 are excellent overclockers and are common to hit 3ghz on air.Originally Posted by breakfromyou
About your RAM, you can still max them out (cpu freq goes first though) with memory dividers, e.g. 333x9=3000mhz CPU speed, 183div=300mhz RAM speed.
