    Fedora Core 6 released

The Fedora Project is pleased to announce the release of Fedora Core 6 (Zod). Install-time access to third-party package repositories, extensive performance improvements, support for Intel-based Macs, and a new GUI virtualization manager are some of the primary features. Additionally, Fedora Core 6 provides various improvements on the desktop, including a new default font and theme, the latest releases of GNOME and KDE, and additional options in window managers.

Please visit our BitTorrent tracker or list of mirrors if you are trying to download Fedora Core 6.

Last time I tried 4 it was total crap (extensive problems) for the system I installed it on. I might check it out Right now using SUSE 10.1 for Linux.

BTW, 10.1 "Update " version came out recently as well in case anyone cares

I hated FC5, never switched to it and for most FC2-4 machines went Debian/Ubuntu when some bad FC5 updates also infected FC4.

However, one of my main machines is still running FC4 and instead of going through the pain of upgrading to Debian/Ubuntu I might just as well try FC6 instead (of course there's no chance their updater works but a new install of the root partition might do).

Gnome versions going towards 2.16 will change your mind...but if you're going from suse to fedora...then get ready for a dissappointment...its just the way thing are atm.

I stick whit Ubuntu (no problems here and I'm not a lucky guy in general ) - GNOME 2.16 was released in September and not much improvement there if you ask me (Tango is to ugly for my taste), I'll see what's up whit the future release - GNOME 2.18 on 6 February 2007 if they respect the release date

Maybe in older versions, I just got the CD's whit the latest version (some time back) and all went well, I'd like to add that this was the first time I've tried Ubuntu and compared to others I was impress whit it, no stablilty problems here compared to a bad experience whit F5 this was same as installing Win, since this topic is about F6 I'm gonna stop here - don't want to start a vs.

Hmm may have to check it out. FC5 was a pretty decent OS but it completely f'ed up my HD partitions. However I do happen to have an empty HD right now, so I can try it without fear of losing my XP and Vista installs. So far in my linux experimenting I have found Suse to be my favorite overall.

Unfortunately, opensuse 10.2 is the only one that'll have a shot at Ubuntu: http://distrowatch.com/

    Fedora is too far behind.

Haha...the only one profoundly obvious like i have is ati...and even them i have struggled with after the 7600/7900 launched...beating x1800/x1600 like nuts.

I have no preference as to distro. Some are bad some are good...but everyone has different opinion on each one. Fedora 6 looks good...i've dloaded it...but i'll wait for 10.2 open suse final before making a final decision.

Beyond that...a shade of neutral doesn't all that bad :p

Me, too, except in my case it was a partition table that already contained other Linuxes (including FC3) and FreeBSD which were all happy with the old partition table.

Of course the Fedora fanbois flame you to death if you even mention this and assure you you are the only one. Overall all technical problems with Fedora aside the information "policy" and the total denial that the Fedora community is in is the major reason why I stopped installing it.
