    Gigabyte GTX460 SOC (quick test)

No 580 here yet so why not test a 460?

    Setup:
    Core i7 980X 3013A
    Rampage III Extreme
    3x2GB A-data XPG 2200+
    Cooler Master Silent Pro 1200W
    OCZ Core v2 30GB
Petripot on CPU and Rybas fatty pot on GPU

    The result (nice and even)

1.55vGPU at -120*C was used for this result. Unfortunately the card has CBB at -60 and CB at around -120 so it was not very nice to bench. Some mods are needed for it to reach full potential, see below.

    How could you do this

No, for real that is very nice score and I like the "new" lab
You are as good as your samples are!

how do you discover these mods? just knowing what the components are? or is there more engineering to it (i've only taken Electrical/Computer Engineering 101)
If I forget to say it, Thank You

You check the datasheet Here is the one for ADP4100: http://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions...DP4100JCPZ-RL7

There you have pin layout and circuit schemes. Check which components each pin of interest is connected to and you can figure out what to do in order to improve what you need. In some cases like OCP for the ADP4100 there's a separate section explaining how to set the current limit.

Where can you get that RAM? I've been looking for red/black themed RAM on a high-end budget ... so no Dominator GTs for price, Tridents and Ripjaws are out of stock!
Signatures make my posts look huge... but I'm not humble enough to completely remove my signature, so I kept this note explaining it.

    Hi elmor

Can these high performance GDDR5 be overclocked to their specified speed 1250mhz ?

I own a Msi 460 HAWK Talon ,which is having same speed hynix memory on it ... MAX it can go 1180MHz with 1.78v.

Some OCing performance on AIR ...please

Requesting for sharing Gigabyte 460 SOC's bios ...

1310 best ive seen so far on the 460's!

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

It seems they are not very available in the US, here in Sweden they are €220 for 2x2GB PC17600 and €170 for 3x2GB PC15000. These are the exact model: http://www.adata.com.tw/?action=prod...&cid=5&piid=88

I did a quick test and it'll do 950/1100 in Vantage with 1.2vGPU on air. Unfortunately something is stoppping the RAM from running at full speed, IMC or some timing perhaps. The stock bios is available here: http://elmor.se/files/460soc.zip, but I doubt it's compatible with your hawx. There's also a bios with "coldslow" fix which they won't allow me to share (seems they can't because of Nvidia).

    Thanks for sharing

    I just want u to try a Gigabyte 460 OC1 F3 bios.

There's something to do with memory with that bios ... just give it a try.

Me too can't go above 950/1180 no matter what voltage i provide .... VRM area gets very very hot & there's no holes to put any HS

"There's also a bios with "coldslow" fix which they won't allow me to share (seems they can't because of Nvidia)." Is this bios provided in drivers CD or i have to request someone to get it .

You'll have to request it from the Gigabyte VGA department.

I changed VID6 to 0 which gave me 1.35v in idle, 1.5v in 3d and 1.55v during load.

    Well done Elmor looking good.
I tried OCP mod, but I removed resistor instead of adding a trimmer.
So when I set 1.3V (I use software not VID) it gave too much current so I think card is dead.
sigh.... Don't know what I did wrong, any suggestion?

Try to completely power off the system (wait until all LEDs are off). OVP will kick in at 1.3v when only using software so that's probably what happened.

It's not the easiest card to bench, lots of cursing ahead if you give it a try

Is this because of the CB and CBB issues Elmor? Did you use that bios they sent you? Does it do anything to fix CBB and CB issues?

Yeah, mostly. The bios only fixes "coldslow", throttling at low temps.

I used max 1.85v, but almost no gain from stock 1.5v.
