    Does fanspeed effect stability?

This question I was pondering about some time:

Fan's use voltage, does that voltage used by the fan effect the other voltages on the card in any way?

So does turning fan off or putting it to 100% make a difference if one is running on water?

Not unless your power supply is total junk.
Or the fan is absolutely massive and sucks LOADS of power.

In your system the power used by the fan wont make any difference at all.

    Obviously temperatures will affect things.

So if the fan isn't even plugged in, there is NO difference, right?

    Why are you asking?

Some motherboards and graphics cards wont like it if a fan isnt plugged in to the CPU / GPU and they wont work..

But as for voltage changes there will be no difference at all.

For example on water (fan off), my x1800 gto's core was stable at 1.225v, but on air (80-100% fanspeed) it is only stable at 1.25v.

So it's either the fanspeed or the +20C degree increase that require more volts

the temps are the reason, not the fanspeed. Heck I wish it was true though, higher OC due to fan speed, that would rock

BUT is it worth it to buy ramsinks? I am having a hard time getting them to remain adhesive to the ram. They fall off do to some level of oil on the ram sinks that I can't get off yet.
    Any suggestions?

The very best way to mount ramsinks is to put a small dab of AS5 (or comparable) TIM in the center (VERY small dab) and put small dabs of superglue on each corner, then just press it on for a minute or two. You'll get the best thermal transfer possible (significantly better than any thermal tape solution), and it pops off relatively easily with just a razer. Some people complain about doing this because they feel afraid that they won't be able to get it off, but I have never yet heard anyone who did this complain that they damaged a component during removal or were not able to get them off.

Fans can, but thats really more related to the RFI sensitivity of the components your system is built from. Usually not really an issue with the massive amounts of RFI given off by the CPU, NB/SB, Video Card, etc..

    Conclusion:
fan voltage and gpu/mem voltage are on different 'mini rails (?)'

i used alcohol prep pads to clean the ram chips on my 6600gt before i stuck on the ramsinks, and none have ever fallen off, i've even restuck some several times and they are still sticky

I just use superglue+arctic silver under the sticky thermal pad - this way if I mess up to take it off I just rip the thermal pad, not the ram off the card.

Some do, some dont. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesnt.
