what are the options for a guy with a ninja and a giga dQ6 with that backplate that comes with the mobo which blocks the attachment of any other backplate to the mobo.

i need to get my temps down those push pins are a joke after you have to reseat due to mobo change.

yes I got that kit. Those screws are only threaded at the tip. The scythe infinity mod needs more threads, so they wouldnt reach.

ahhh so getting that TT universal kit and just going to the store and grabbing the same size screws with more threads, and some plastic spacers or what not, youd be golden i think.

Check out my thread here for some info and tips. Note though, that I have since done away with the spacers under the MB standoffs and instead cut out a large section of the MB tray so that I can fit the nuts from beneath the MB. The same affect could be achieved by drilling 4 suitably sized holes in the appropriate locations on the MB tray.

judging from the first pic, either the IHS was very convex, or the base of the heatsink. Personally, that IHS lapping looks unfinished & I would have gone up till 1000grit. I understand how a mirror finish wont give you any real thermal performance gains, but 600grit is VERY rough. My guess is that you can shave off at least 2c from finishing that lap job & lapping the heatsink base. Nice mod though.

That pic is to show that the outside of the IHS stood up pretty bad.

The final result is ofcourse completely copper.
And 600grit very rough? It also should be pretty rough..

i felt so inspired i went and bought a dremel and did a little mod on my ninja while i wait and see what ill do with the mounting as the TT kit is mailed to me. im not much of a modding kind of guy, or someone who works with his hands - but this was fun. all i did was grind down part of the mounting plate so it didnt rest on the caps around my dq6. people said this was ok, no harm no foul with the slight rest upon the caps - but after doing this my temps dropped about 6-7c - before the as5 has had a chance to cure, as in i just did it - so it was worthwhile. i bought the ninja for my p5n-e sli but i rma'd it and that had zero clearance issues.

i may have found yet another way to waste my time

quick question, i got my TT bolt thru kit in the mail and i dont think you have to mod anything for it to work with a ninja. just get rid of the silver metal piece designed for the TT heatsink and use the backplate and the four screws with springs.

i took off one of the plastic intel pins from the stock heatsink i have laying around and placed the screw into it and it will apply plenty of pressure to hold it down - no washer needed.

only one thing i am wondering, the metal of the mounting bracket that is on the ninja would be pressed into the motherboard top side (cpu side) and on the revers the metal of the backplate would touch where the four screw-holes are.

should i remedy this with some small plastic washers from home depot?

i figured if it needed it TT should have included it but i am asking to be safe.

If the backplate is just touching the mobo and nothing else, I don't think plastic is needed. But if you have them laying arround; hell why not..

there is a shim to block the backplate center from touching the mobo (the part directly underneath the cpu)

the only metal that would touch is at the four points where the holes are. i assume this is ok.

Screw thread outside diameter (I believe) - 6/32 of an inch is 0.64875mm (Seems a little big to me though so I might be wrong here. I've used [metric] M3-M4 sized bolts)

In this case you just need to make sure your chosen screws fit within the smallest holes of your hardware and your springs and that you have the appropriate fitting nuts or knobs.

its ok when its bending a little. One way to stop it a little is by adding a backplate. But I found that the pressure is so great that even THAT was bending. As long as its not bending too much, your computer should work just fine. Im thinking of fabricating a stronger backplate so I can have increased pressure w/ o bending...

The UNF thread sizes, (up to 1/4") are gauges. The no. 6 nominal diameter is: 0.1380" which would work out to 3.5mm. The "-32" is the threads per inch.

Any more detail, and I'll have to dig out my 20 year out Machinery's Handbook.
