So, will 3.0v kill Micron - the grueling test

After reading about how Bachus's g.skill died at 2.75v.. I came to wonder.. how many sticks have we actually seen die so far? I know overcrash86 was playing with 3.1v and it wasn't instant death.

So, upon remembering that I have a cheap 256mb stick of Micron D9GMG, the x16 width varient of D9GMH, I decided to have some fun.

and now i start tweaking to get the max performance out of the sticks and see how long they last.

yes, it will indeed be curious to see what happens. i suspect it'll make it through the weekend. this also will show whether or not the dfi is up to supplying 3v as well.. i suspect that it is though

board only goes to 3.0v, and modding it isn't worth the effort


finding max 16m at 4-4-3.. gonna be somewhere around 570mhz. not bad for an unbinned stick of value ram

GMG is a 333mhz, cas5 like GMH, just 32Mbx16 instead of 64Mbx8

well, that turned up results quickly. at first, i was able to pass 16m at 568mhz

now i can't do it at 550mhz.

moral of the story: no instant death, but it won't last long at all at 3v

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant degrading of cpu's and ramchips is actually electronmigration and this happens at any voltage and temperature. Putting them in the fridge for say 48 hours can in theory fix it, or partly.

Tell you what. Look up arc welding. That is what electromigration is on a scale that you can physically see (assuming you use a helmet when doing it so you dont burn your out your eyes....).

I know what it is. Lightning is also electromigration (it's plain ionizing of the air).
