Question Asus Rampage II Extreme Northbridge (NB) temperatures

I haven't actually got an Asus Rampage II Extreme yet, however, I wondered if anyone out there who *has* experience high Northbridge (NB) temperatures, either at idle or full load when overclocking?

I will have Panaflo 120x38mm 86 CFM fan blowing air over video card/NB area from the front of the case, but don't want to fiddle with the board, i.e. re-applying TIM on the stock heatsink, installing a third party heatsink, etc.

    Thanks.

You will be fine, I have an Antec Spotcool blowing over the rams and IOH. Temps will be around 60°C when it get's some air flow... SB also get's quite hot due to the heat generated by the IOH
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Yes, I decided to buy that Antec Spot Cool fan, and will point it towards the NB area, great idea. I found lots of 40mm fans, but never found a good way to attach them, so this Spot Cool fan seems to be the logical choice.

Your temperatures are quite good, considering I've read a lot of people who have higher. Your NB was bent? How come, did you do that or was it like that from the factory?

With the Spot Cool I get +/-45°C IOH and 45°C ICH... compared to the Gene II which is always in the 60°C range with the same cooler Mind you my case is always open

What case do you have? I'm going to use the Antec P180 Mini. If you have photographs of the inside of your PC system, I'd appreciate seeing them. I've not worked with mATX before and photographs would help me see how everything fits together, and the spaces between the components. Thanks.

Big Lian li for the I7 setups ( normally it houses my WC setup with triple rad on the top ) Tonite I will take a piccie of the Gene II and the normal RE II (I hardly think the RE II will fit into an Antec P180 mini ) as the mobo is bigger than normal ATX format

    GENE II Piccies :

For me it's an incredible little board packing some serious punch

Thanks for the pictures, your system looks great. That board looks tiny in that case! I'm going to house it in an Antec P180 Mini, so I'm trying to find pictures of that to get an idea of how everything looks once installed. Look forward to seeing more pictures, I've yet to receive my board. Thanks again.

It could be the location of the X58 on those particular boards that causes it to get so hot. At least one user here on XS has reported quite a bit lower temps on his P6T7 for the NB even though that board has two NF200's on it. But the difference is that the P6T7 has a relocation of the X58 chipset over to the right side of the PCI-E slots.
