Wow, that's crazy... I just got my E6600 @ 3.5ghz and am happy, couldn't imagine a CPU with four cores instead of two at these kinds of speeds !

4 cores = much hotter than two cores?

71C seems high for low voltages and overclocks like these (low compared to conroe).

Kentsfield does run hotter than Conroe/Allendale. But what you get with four cores is enormous rendering power. Kentsfield @ 3.6GHz will annihilate Conroe in any kind of rendering benchmark.

Orthos won't run four instances, only two max.

I ran quad-SP2004 at 3.4GHz. Core Temp and Asus Probe were pretty much in agreement.

Also, running two instances of Orthos doesn't stress all four cores either. I just tried it. CPU usage is only 50%. The only way to get 100% utilization is running four seperate instances of Prime/SP2004.

    That is correct.

He may have assumed he was getting 100% utilization. But it's always a good idea to check the task manager to make sure.

What if you set affinity for 2 cores to each instance of orthos?
