    A Japanese bencher was testing Clovertown a few weeks ago. Scroll down to the middle of the page. He was also using a Supermicro board.

    Sandra Multi-Media would be good.
    Pov-Ray is a good rendering test http://www.povray.org/download/
    There are also various chess benchmarks that you could try.

    I don't have links to chess programs. There are a lot of them.

    The Japanese also use a rendering benchmark called Mandelbrot. If you're knowledgeable about mathematics, you'll know who Benoit Mandelbrot is.

    Having used Kentsfield, I can tell you the rendering power is awesome. I'm sure 8-cores will be even better.

    In that case...Photoshop CS2 benchmarks (Driverheaven has a good one fairly automated one....)

    And it's still probably worth a shot to try this on 06, see if it does any better than a 4-core setup
