    Problem with folder.

I have recently resurrected an old P3 machine with 256MB ram, for use as a 24/7 folder. (i was planning on WCG)

i am running windows 98 on it, as i have a spare legal copy of it.

my main PC uses a wireless network. I have activated Internet Connection Sharing on this, and plugged the 98 PC in with crossed cat5.

The 98 PC can ping the XP fine...
The 98 PC can access the XP shared files...
The XP PC can ping the 98...
The 98 PC can ping internet servers, (ie, google, XS etc)
If I load IE on the 98 PC, it will NOT load any pages, it just says it cannot access the server or something...

EDIT: wooo fixed it! it seems the DNS settings were wrong in 98. i am just trying to get boinc running now... needs IE updates and stuff before it will install.

    any ideas?

It keeps giving me WUs with deadlines of 2001, and says I may not be credited for them. Is this a problem?

(it is now benching at 472/862 because I OCed it from 450MHz to 560MHz)

No, it doesn't. BOINC will also report those dates when the BIOS is reset (and so the system time is). Mine even goes back to 1901 after a BIOS reset. Don't mind the dates, you WILL get credit for them.

You scores seem low? My P3 @900 does 1100-3200 optimised?

none on the P3 at the moment, but the crunch3r ones on the P4.

i thought the optimisations were only for the P4s and A64s? if not then i will optimise it right now. i want the SSE (not SSE2) for the P3, yea?

right, i have discovered the computer thinks it is the year 2000, and that its clock loses about an hour per day... i will ignore the deadlines.

SSEd, it gets 548/2006. that is quite an increase i think, and it is also at stock, (450MHz) as it was getting a bit hot, due to a terrible thermal interface. it needs some AS5 really. do you happen to have any i could borrow melymel?

Oh, and you might be interested in this: expect run-times of over 18 hours on that P3

heh, yea. i left it on overnight last night, and it only did 20% of a WU. hopefully it will be a bit quicker with the optimisations. i plan on just leaving it on 24/7, and it can send results etc whenever my main computer is on.

do i have to join Free-DC to get the stats thing? i cannot work out where to get it...
