You can try taking a look here:

I've personally been able to do 400fsb relatively easily on my p5b vanilla. However on my friend's p5b dlx, with older c1 chip, it was a little harder.

Make sure you have spread spectrum turned off. Try pcie of 100, 105, and 110, instead of just 101.

See if it helps to manually define the other voltages. 1.057vich should be fine, along with 1.5vsb, but if you want, you can try bumping them each a notch.

Honestly, I've found c1e/speedstep/vanderpool to have no real effect at all, but it may for you so it's worth a shot.

Also, what bios are you running? Try updating to the latest if you're using an old version.

Can you try 400x7? How about 400x9 just to see if it'll post? How is your cooling for the northbridge?

    CPU and RAM ratios

hey, i am having confusion problems with the ratios of the ram and CPU does the ram frequancy work on a ratio with the frequancy of the CPU or the FSB? another question (for example) if i get a p5b deluxe, 1gb of ddr 533 mhz ram, and a core 2 duo E6300 would i be able to hit 500FSB with cipset and CPU water cooling ? Or would i need a 800mhz ram min ?

    thank you

yeah the fsb:ram is minimum 1:1, so for 500FSB you need mem that can do 500mhz (ddr2 1000)

    Thank you so much ziddey.

I'm going to try those setting you suggested above. I just got this rig last week and I've updated the Bios to the latest one posted on ASUS website.

I'm running really hot on everything so I have put a halt to my OC. At stock speeds I'm running at 45c-50c with stock cooling. I had order a Zalman CNPS9500 with Artic Silver for CPU and a ZALMAN FC - ZV9 for the graphics card.

is there any way that you could set your ram not to sync with the FSB frequancy, but for it to get its own indipendant frequancy?

Great thread. I don't agree w/ all the BIOS settings suggested however. I've been running my q6600 on my p5b-del with a lot of the power savings options enabled with no ill effects. For example, speedstep and C1E are enabled and the machine is 2x orthos > 12 h stable. Anyway, good job.

yeah, I run with those settings too. it's too bad asus didn't design vid into the equation when overclocking. i'd love to be able to use 6x multi and a low vid when idle. glad the dfi can do it

Are you seriously planning to download and install a BIOS from an unknown origin? The latest official release is 1101.

Hmm, not sure if it was just programmed in but not visible or what. I did some searching and found it for an older 955 asus board:

AI CPU Lock Free - This parameter allows you to determine the internal speed of the
CPU. For the P4 550, if “Enabled” is selected, the internal CPU speed will equal fourteen
times the CPU Frequency. If “Disabled” is selected, the internal CPU speed will equal
seventeen times the CPU Frequency. Also found in “Advanced/Jumper Free”.

    probably doesn't mean much.

I don't think vdroop can be corrected all too much by a bios update though, so don't get your hopes up necessarily. but this is indeed a p5b dlx bios.

Hey guys, I'm a bit confused here. I'm used to OC my P5WDH and when setting in BIOS CPU Freq 400Mhz and DRAM Freq DDR2-800, in POST it show PC2-6400 (GSkill PC2-6400 DDR2-800 2GBHZ, 2x1GB).

But with P5B Deluxe Wifi + Bios 1101 + E6300 + GSkill 2GBHZ, when I set CPU Freq= 400Mhz, DRAM Freq= DDR2-800, I see in POST as PC2-4300? Is it bios bug? or does my ram really runs underclock?

it's because the divider you're using would have been pc2-4300 at stock speed. no worries

Unfortunately I'm worried LOL. Or maybe I don't understand your explanation. I thought 1:1 400FSB should be DDR2-800=PC2-6400? please elaborate for me=noob.

    right, but 1:1 266FSB would be DDR2-533=PC2-4300

Well if in BIOS I put 400FSB and 800Mhz, POST will show PC2-4300. This is in my P5B Dlx.

But in P5W DH Dlx 400FSB and 800Mhz, POST will show PC2-6400.

After trying more on the P5B Dlx, the only way I can get PC2-6400 in POST if I set DRAM Freq 1200Mhz! Did I missed something?

What I'm trying to say is that the "PC2-XXXX" moniker is only to show the divider in use. Since we're dealing with the 266strap, it has 1:1, 4:5, and 2:3. If you take 266 and divide by these, you get 266, 333, 400 (533, 667, 800). Hence, the 2:3 would give you PC2-6400 while at 266fsb. So when you use that at 400fsb, 400x3/2=600 (1200).

I noticed this too, but I don't understand your explanation. I always use 1:1 and am running @ 9x333 on my q6600. I believe mine shows PC2-4600 now. When I run @ stock 9x266, it shows PC2-6400. Can you elaborate?
