    Steve Irwin... DEAD

    http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...005961,00.html

THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It is understood he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest.
    R.I.P Steve.

Edit: One time I was off the Grand Cayman Islands, on a scuba diving expedition, and we stopped while one of the guides threw food into the water. Two minutes later, there were like 1000 stingrays all over the place. It was crazy.
The guide picked one up out of the water and showed us it wouldn't harm us, and let us pet it. He then jumped in the water with all the rays, and invited us to jump it too. After getting in, the rays would just swim up to you and rub against you like you weren't even there. They seemed like the most docile creatures... can't believe one of them killed Steve Irwin.

yeah we thought it was a croc or snake over at OCAU as the news first hit that he was injured

the sting was deadly because of the location of the sting rather than anything else bad luck

You can pass on to your mates there that he was a loved guy here in the US.
My personal feeling is that he and Paul Hogan did more for Austrailia than any PR job ever could..
My heart goes out to his family..

yeah done in by a string ray barb to the chest

if he was stung anywhere else he probably would have a good chance of surviving but right into the chest!

wow, what are the odds of something like that happening? You know, theres a reason why things happen... its unfortunate... struck through the heart with a tail.

the damn things have these 4-6" spikes on their tails and they use them as defensive weapons PLUS they're toxic... it's fair to say he probably didn't last long. It probably caused an immediate heart attack.

Damn I didnt realize stingrays were that deadly. That's rather unfortunate for Steve. I've always like his passion for the things he does. A terrible loss indeed.

Makes you wonder what exactly he was doing. Ray's are not agressive, most people are only hit when they step on them, not swimming like he was. Who ever witnessed it will probably never tell the real story. Sad for fans and his family, he was an entertaining fellow.

Kinda ironic how he has fought crocodiles all his life and now gets killed by such a silly 'creetuah'
