8GB Mushkin Redline Ridgeback or G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB

    Hey,

(sorry if I posted a RAM related Q in the wrong area)

Looking for some advice on the best RAM to choose to go in the following setup...

    Asus Maximus IV P67
    2600k Chip

Would need to fit under the Noctua NH-D14.

    Mushkin Redline 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 7-8-7-24
    Type: DDR3
    Voltage: 1.65V
    Speed Spec: PC3-12800
    Frequency: 1600MHz

    Capacity
    Kit Type: Dual Kit
    Module Size: 4GB

    Timings
    tCL: 7
    tRCD: 8
    tRP: 7
    tRAS: 24

    G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz
    Model Name: F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH
    Main Board: INTEL
    System: DESKTOP
    System Type: DDR3
    M/B Chipset: INTEL P67
    CAS Latency: 7-8-7-24 2N
    Capacity: 8GB (4GBx2)
    Speed: DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800)
    Test Voltage: 1.55-1.65V
    Registered/Unbuffered: Unbuffered
    Error Checking: Non-ECC
    Type: 240-pin DIMM
    Master Pack Dimension: 8.5 x 5.5 x 0.62 In (L x W x H)
    Master Pack Weight: 0.26 lbs
    Black PCB
    Warranty: Lifetime

Also, on the market at the moment for 8GB. Is this about as fast as RAM gets?

    Thanks

    EDIT:
    Just seen these for £50.69....

8GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-10666 RipjawsX Series for Sandy Bridge (7-7-7-21) Dual Channel kit
    Item model number: F3-10666CL7D-8GBXH

Better than the above and a bargain at the price?

    hmm...

So out of the G-Skill which is the better. Tighter timings (7.7.7.21) @ 1333mhz or Slightly looser timings (7.8.7.24) @ 1600mhz

    Rig 1:
    ASUS P8Z77-V
    Intel i5 3570K @ 4.75GHz
    16GB of Team Xtreme DDR-2666 RAM (11-13-13-35-2T)
    Nvidia GTX 670 4GB SLI

    Rig 2:
    Asus Sabertooth 990FX
    AMD FX-8350 @ 5.6GHz
    16GB of Mushkin DDR-1866 RAM (8-9-8-26-1T)
AMD 6950 with 6970 bios flash

Yamakasi Catleap 2B overclocked to 120Hz refresh rate

    OK...

So looking at even higher Mhz ram would be pointless?

    For example a 2133Mhz kit?

    G.Skill RipJawsX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit
    CAS Latency: 9-10-9-28 2N (Capable of 6-8-6-24-2N at 1600MHz)

Come on guys help me out here please... Which is the super best way to go?

I would go for high frequency. It has more impact on memory bandwidth on Sandybridge then latency.
    Maximus 5 Gene | i7-3770K @ 5GHz | ADATA 2x2GB @ 2.6GHz 9-12-10-28-1T | HD7970 @ 1200/6400
    Rampage 4 Extreme | i7-3930K @ 5GHz ||| X58-A OC Orange | i7-980X @ 4.6GHz

    So you'd go for...

    G.Skill RipJawsX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit
    CAS Latency: 9-10-9-28 2N (Capable of 6-8-6-24-2N at 1600MHz)

    and not...
    Mushkin Redline 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 7-8-7-24

    ???

Is there any ram specifically you'd recommend to give amazing results?

i have those 2133 9-11-10-9-28 and they run awesome but let me tell you someting the patriots extreme 2000 9-11-9-27 kicks they're b...they run 2133 9-11-9-27 1T at 5600Mhz chip on stock vdimm

and theyre extremely flexible, i dont need to put 2x2 kits to bench or lower timmings * frequency they gust go on those till 2175 on 1,65

The best thing for SB would actually be the GSkill 2133 (4GB sticks x 4) with 11-11-11 timings. Ya the timings are high, but as they dont matter as much for SB you gain more from the high MHz. Or you could get the Mushkin redline's and try overclocking them to 1866 with 7-9-7 timings, that *should* work with a bit of tweaking. You may get a little better benchmark scores with 2133 RAM, but really you wont notice a different in normal stuff you are doing with anything over DDR-1600.

Honestly, everything I've ever used on the performance side from Mushkin was amazing. In fact, I just installed some Mushkin today for a customers machine. 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000 9-11-10-28 Redline in a system running a 2600K, and hit 5.0 GHz at 126-130 GFlop in Linx on a Gigabyte Z68 board, and a push/pull Thermalright Venemous-X cooler.

The comments everyone has made regarding the timings being less important - I find this to be true as well. I have another 2600K under liquid cooling with a Mushkin 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 7-9-8-24 Redline configuration and tighter timings - but it doesn't perform as well in the benchmarks. Granted, it's only at 4.8GHz (this chip wont go above a multi of 48 without serious volts) - but the performance differences are evident despite the MHz difference.

G-Skill seems to be hit and miss. Some people swear by it, others say it's trash. I've always steered clear. Here in the States, Brian Flood handles all the high-end R&D for Mushkin - and I trust his work. Whatever the price difference (if there is a price difference) it's worth it. I just recently built up a 990X system which also overclocked extremely well with Mushkin Redline. Very good stuff from my experience.

As for Patriot's high-end memory - I have no experience, however from my understanding... most of the high-end memory manufacturers are all using the same chips. It's just marketing, and here say in most situations. It all comes down to what you see in the chips when you slide back the heat-sinks I hear Patriot memory is great - but I stand by what I said about the Mushkin Brand. This, and they are AMAZING to work with if you need RMA assistance.

We like Mushkin memory so much, their redline ridge back is spray painted in our geekbox mural on the outside of our building You can kind of see it in my sig. haha.
