Onboard Raid....
Does it limit your overclock at all and does it actually give any real boost to 3dmark?
Specifically thinking of the BD7-ii Raid board with a pair of western digital special editions.
Cheers,

I can't honestly speak for the Intel boards..but as far as my situation...Raid doesn't really improve 3DMark at all..but as far as overclock is concerned, or more accurately...FSB overclocking...I utilize my raid channels as normal IDE channels. The reason is the Highpoint controller plays very nicely at high PCI bus speeds...which eliminated all my HD corruption problems when I was connected to the native IDE controllers. So in essence...it did help my FSB overclocking very well.

okay Icee how would I set up a raid 0. I want a clean install of 2k on one for benching and xp for everyday use. That way I don't have to reformat everytime. Also If I clear the cmos after the raid is set up will it affect the raid? (my first raid)

Anyone have any thoughts about the Promise onboard Raid controller and how it performs at high fsb?

Randi - Im concidering building up a quad raid 0 array with western digital special editions. The reason for asking was that a while back now I remember reading about high fsb causing the loss of the array meaning a rebuild and reinstall.
However, if its more tolerant as a standard IDE header then I cant see running Raid configurations would affect it.

I believe OPP would be the man to ask as he's run arrays on many highly overclocked FSB rigs. He could give you a clear answer. I've not ever run a Raid array....because most of my time spent on my computer involves benching 3DMark..and Raid has very little if any effect on those scores.
I run 2 WD 7200 drives off the Highpoint controller as it avoids suffering HD corruption. I'm not sure about that with Raid and/or it's tolerance under the same circumstances. Both HD's are partitioned into 2 partitions.My20 Gig contains Windows 98 (for playing my racing sims) and WindowsXP (For my everday web browsing and daily routine stuff). My 40 Gig HD contains Windows 2000 for 3Dark benching on a 5 gig partition..the remaining 35gigs are dedicated to storage of programs, etc. for the 3 OS's.

PiLsY :
With the BD7 II, you can fix the AGP/PCI speed to 66/33 in the bios. At least, I think you can. With my Epox 4bda2+ an TH7II Raid, I can choose that option.
