NEW PSU DIDN'T SOLVE MY ISSUES!

I origionally thought my random reboots and lockups were caused by a faulty psu, this is not the case. I am fairly certain its the bios.

Can anyone please shed some light on this for me? Has anyone had the same lockup/reboot issue as I have with the new 1901 bios?

I would not recommend advising people to turn off UAC without a disclaimer.

Its a security feature that will help stop any trojans that get on your system trying to run with an elevated user permission.

With UAC turned off, and IF you get some nasties on your system that try to run under administrator mode, they will run, With UAC ON this will not happen.

Just be careful and be aware of the impact if you turn UAC off.

I would try running 1707 bios if the system didn't lockup during bios flash. I'm thinking of ordering a chip from "biosman" but the order process is a little confusing.

Has anyone tried getting a bios chip from biosman?

Heres the real question; I've heard of "hot flashing" where you take out the bios chip while the computer is on, so is it safe to assume that once the computer gets past post and starts to load windows that it is no longer a major effect on the system? I mean, once it gets to windows boot screen, could the bios chip STILL cause a lockup/reboot?

after disconnecting both hard drives in order to do a boot from CD with norton, the same issues appear.

    Kev,

    Two things,
1: you are experiencing electrical power fluctuations that are triggering the BIOS to think power has been restored... a long shot.

    2. you have the Wake on Lan setting on and something on your network is triggering that.

Having said that, i have no idea your situation so the above is a guess. Check your bios settings regarding wake on power and wakeon lan.

I have a similar problem, no fix yet. Your problem might have s.t. to do with the use of USB ports 3 and 4. Those ports will wake up your pc if you use them. Perhaps the story below will be of assistance to you.

After I shut down my pc it always immediately restarts again. I checked the keyboard, mouse and USB cord on another pc and it worked fine there, no unwanted restarts.
My latest BIOS update is 1602, but the problem was there before that update as well.
All the setting in the BIOS (WOL etc.) are correct.

My computer has 4 USB ports at the back and 2 at the front. (the 2 extra optional ones are not installed).
The 4 ports in the back are situated like this:
    ||
    ||
I do not use the 2 ports on the bottom of the above picture as they are dedicated to remote wake up which I do not use.
The 2 top ports of the above picture I use for the DiNovo keyboard and mouse. These are the 2 problem ports that would make my computer start up again after full shut down.

I wanted to be able to shut down my pc without having to use the power button so I installed a pci USB card with 4 ports. I used that to bypass the 2 problem USB ports and it worked, no more unwanted restarts.
Out of curiousity I tried the top 2 problem USB ports at the back of the computer again. To my surprise they gave no more problems when I shutdown the computer, no more unwanted restarts.
Just to see what would happen I took out the installed pci USB card with 4 ports.
The top 2 problem ports still gave no more problems so I left the pci USB card out. (after all, not too many pci slots on this mobo).

Next I found out that when I use the 2 USB ports at the front of my computer now cause the computer to start up again after I shut down. I have to take out any USB device in the front ports before I shut down the computer.

I am still in contact with the ASUS support team, I will post any positive development re this issue. I would also appreciate to hear from forum members if and how they solved this problem. (apart from never shut down pc again

I'm having a problem with my computer. I have an asus p5w dh, intel core 2 duo, 120GB sata and 320 GB sata, samsung lightscribe dvdr, and a usb card reader installed in a P180 case. The transfer rate on my computer is slow. My 4 year old laptop is faster. When I download apps like itunes or any other apps the transfer rate is 30kb's or less. I have a studio and to copy my sound library it took forever. Like a few days. Everything downloads very slow. I did a comparison opening some winrar file from my laptop and it opens them in seconds. With this computer it's taking me minutes, anywhere from 8 to 212 mins to open depending on the size. Please tell me I have something setup wrong. Help would be so greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your drives are operating in PIO Mode.
Check your cables, and the transfer mode settings within Windows ( Device Manager => IDE/ATAPI Controllers ) => xxxx Channel => Advanced Settings.
Make sure they're set to DMA Mode.

    Hey man, too much info!

Easy fix I posted a couple times already. Just remove the ez-raid jumper and use the right orange sata connector. You'll have 4 drives directly on the ICH7 southbridge and will be able to manipulate them with the intel raid config during post.

    Best of luck.

    motherboard/bios ate my ram.. again.

Well, not sure if it was related to the 1901, moving up to 4:5, or what, but my two sticks of corsair pc2-8500c5 sticks are officially dead. This is my second set of these dimms, first of which got replaced by corsair a month and a half ago or so.

When we got the 1901, I wasn't able to manage my original 385x9 1:1 and had to move down to 380x9. After some benchmarking, I determined that 4:5 gave me more performance, and the box ran great for a week and a half up til this past weekend. After experiencing tons of random reboots and misc box crashes, Sunday night my computer went into a serious reboot cycle in the middle of the night, and the ram degraded to a state where it won't even boot windows now.

Popped in memtest86 and I get thousands of errors every second. Nice, a?

I'm frustrated and upset over the incompatibility with 1066mhz memory and the intel 975 chipset, so I'm about to order some 800mhz stuff. I'm not sure whether I'll go g.skill or another company, but I'm done dealing with these problems.

When I RMA these corsair dimms and get a new set back like I did the last time, they're going up for sale.

I checked and that wasn't it. It was already set in DMA mode. Any other suggestions? I notice that my my RAM runs at the 533 instead of the 800 so should I tweak something in the BIOS?

This is a download of Itunes. I have a wireless desktop, but I'm using a wired connection. My old laptop would download this so quick. I am missing something. Can someone give me a site to run some performance tests please.
