Zippy is still top after all this time?? Where does the AOpen 700w feature? It's an FSP.

@perkam: which is a better build, FSP or Seasonic? Thanks
Did you think Ultra X3 1600W or 1000W is good choice to EVGA X58 SLI Classified ,i7 920 (OC to 4.8 GHz),12 GB RAM DDR3 Corsair or OCZ or G.skill trident,3x EVGA 285 and 6 HDD ????
I hope Topower receives a better ranking here than tier 5 when the list is updated.
These are some pretty good reviews: Topower Powerbird 1100W receives overall Teaktown rating: 94/100% and Topower Powerbird 1100W receives Driver Heaven Editor's Choice Award.
I was thinking of getting one.
850 HX is tier 2??
A complete overhaul, you mean? This list badly needs one, that's for sure.
GameXstream is tier 2? They're definitely known for horrible ripple, sometimes exceeding ATX spec, and If I had a dollar for every failing computer thread I've seen, where one of those things was found to be the culprit...
i7 2600K | ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z | GTX Titan | Corsair DDR3-2133
From the "real" reviews out there, a Corsair 850HX would be a Tier 1, whatever a Tier 1 qualifier would be. Since the 850HX performs as well as a Seasonic M12D/PCP&C Silencer 910/XFX 850 Black Edition (which are all the same platform and essentially the same power supply), and the Antec SG 850, I'd put all the aforementioned power supplies in the same tier...absolute first class.
The Topower PowerBirds, I'd put down to Tier 3, due to their less-than-stellar internal construction (using no-name Chinese capacitors in the secondary is not what I'd call first class construction) along with higher than the class-leaders in ripple/noise generation at near to full load. For the money, there are better choices out there.
The problem with the OCZ lines is that they are a mishmash of OEM's, even within the same name line, and you cannot relate the performance of one unit to another, even if they have the same name and just differ in wattage.
For example, the StealthXStream 400W, for example, is built by CWT while the StealthXStream 500W and 600W are built by FSP....but the FSP units have worse ripple/noise than the CWT build.
The OCZ Fata1ity 700W, a unit built by Impervio, was going to originally be released as an EliteXStream, but that line was suddenly EOL'd for no apparent reason...at least none mentioned by OCZ. But it's a great performer.
And for another, the ModXStream Pro 700W is a Sirtec built unit. This one just doesn't like heat at all and uses less-than-stellar caps inside it, and has a rather low +12V output for its overall capacity (552W out of its rated 700W----much lower percentage of its capacity avail. in +12V {~78%} as compared to other units of similar output, like the Antec TruePower 750W with 744W of its total capacity avail. on its +12V rails.)
Now that's a mishmash of OEM's! Always wondered how OCZ managed to keep up with who makes what.
Guys, what does everyone think of the Thermaltake Toughpower 1200w?
I need a powerfull psu, the 850w OCZ I have cant cope under load and keeps cutting out...any other recommendations?

Intel Core i7 3820 / ASUS X79 Sabertooth
Gskill 2133mhz Quad 16GB / Auzentech X-FI Forte
Sapphire HD5970 OC 2GB
4x 500GB Western Digital "Black Edition" (Raid5)
Thermaltake ToughPower 1500w PSU / OCZ 1250W PSU
Corsair H100
CoolerMaster CM-690 / Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Samsung T260HD 26" LCD / HDTV
You would've been better served to start a new thread... but anyway...
You have a powerful PSU. An OCZ 850W GameXStream has the capacity to easily handle that system.
I would check to see if it's faulty. A good place to start is by testing your lines with a reliable DMM at idle and load.
I wanted to ask which one is better Corsair 650TX or Enermax Pro 82+ 525W (i know both of them will do the job but still wanted to ask) its going to power system with E8400 Foxconn Blackops x48 8gb of ram 3-4 hard drives and radeon 4850
I'm glad to see PC P&C units got the respect they deserved, everyone went all crazy with corsair units thinking they were better than sliced bread..
Reserved for unimportant things.
no one ever says things are better than sliced bread, just that the are the best thing SINCE

I planning on getting the OCZ Z Series 650w. Is this list going to get an update? I'd just like to know where it stands.

Playing with formatting atm. Once the final format is decided, I'll update the new guide.
Members who prefer the old Tiered list will get a new one as well based on JonnyGuru Review Scores.

lol, my friend from taiwan have a zippy power supply he bought in taiwan
it looks really cheap, but got one powerful kick
A new update to this guide is currently on hold.
I am more than welcome to suggestions to the categories listed in the first post.

I come here every time I need a new power supply but the list on page 1 is kinda old now.
For my newest build, I have tentatively picked this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188039
and this CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115202
I want to get a Tier 2 power supply. Over half of the cases I am looking at want bottom-mounted power supplies, so that has to be taken into consideration too.
When is this list going to be updated? I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival?
EVGA 680i
e6600 + 2gb Dominator 6400C4d
EVGA 8800 GTS
OCZ 700w Gamestream
2 Seagate 120 gb SATA 7200 rpm RAID 0-WinXP Pro 32
Lian-Li PC-V2000
DARE TO BE STUPID!!!
Max price for power supply?
Whatever the answer may be, I still recommend Corsair:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...rsair%20Memory
Or this one:
Antec Signature
The Good:
* incredible ripple and noise suppression rivalled only by big brother 850W
* fantastic efficiency
* quiet under most conditions
* rated at 50 degrees
* semi-modular
The Bad:
* nothing really serious comes to mind
The Mediocre:
* why is there no 1kW version yet?
See full review at http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory4&reid=113
Or one of those:
Seasonic X 80+GoldThe Good:
* goes fanless until it heats up... and fanless operation is actually attainable in a warm computer case for a change
* efficient
* efficient
* efficient
* did I mention it's efficient?
* stable regulation
* fully modular
* excellent ripple and noise suppression
The Bad:
* you'll want to buy two... or three... or four...
The Mediocre:
* no TV and no beer make Wolfie something something

Looking to build a new one over the next few months. (Some sort of guide is better than No guide at all so bear with me).
Perkam, how does the XFX Pro 650W PSU figure in your admittedly old list?
It has a single 12v rail of 53A.
I would be interested since it looks pretty good.
Your opinion would be welcome
