but seriously, please stop. I'm running out of clean underwear, and I'm not sure how much more of this my heart can take. Give us a little rest. Its just so much all at once. It feels like only yesterday we were stuck at ~10.2sec and speculating when 5Ghz will be broken.

And I still dont. And I doubt even Coolaler could.

What makes TEAM JAPAN so special? Is there LN2 different/better? Coolaler and several others are already using LN2/triple-cascade to reach >4800Mhz. And as someone already mentioned, Coolaler has about 200Mhz lead on everyone else. Coolaler is slowly inching down 0.1sec at a time, and its certainly getting harder and harder as stability decreases. 9.0 sec is a very remote possibility. But, your 7.99sec and in august, is just crazy over-optimism.

Sorry, but I just dont see it happening.

ok let me clear this up a bit. For one thing I said 7.999 by END of year... 8.999 by August. I can assure you, Team Japan LIVES superPI. Already CAL930 hit 9.900 at "only" 5140mHz with his last two liters of LN2. If you've been watching superPI long enough you'll remember that TJ ALWAYS PWNZ superPI. They use exquisite O/S tweaks.

    I'll say it again

    8.999 in August

7.999 by end of year (might not be Conroe )

One more question, HOW MANY RETAIL X6800 have you seen on LN2?

Great job once again Coolaler. But everybody saying that he's the only one hitting 5+ghz is wrong there is at least a handfull more. Kinc and Crotale, CAL930 so the race is on! I think that sub 9sec will go down soon but sub 8sec will take a while.

Yes exactly nobody knows how well retails will perform. After ES release Intel had much time to fix bugs and to push everything from core architecture, so this mean only one thing - retail will probably outperform ES. If yes 7.999s by the end of the year is very possible. Dont forget E8000, its scheduled for Q4 to compete against AMD 4x4. with this beast on LN2 we could expect even more than 7.999s.

So Im staying with charlie, cause its awfully close to be true.

Its premature, and even illogical to assume that retail chip will scale significantly higher than the dozens of ES out there.

In fact, when has there ever been a clear documented case of a group of retail chips doing significantly better than ES chips (please dont quote best retail vs worst ES..hence "group")

As for Team Japan. I have the utmost adoration for them. Yes they are very skilled. Coolaler and many other overclockers already use a few tweaks. So, let be realistic about how much additional OS tweaks can provide (hint: much less than 10%).

Coolaler is at 5.4Ghz and 9.5s. Go back to that excel scaling graph. Even if 5.6Ghz is reached, it will still be insufficient to break 9.000s. And even the almight 6.0Ghz is certainly going to result in 8.5s. So, unless you are confident that Intel engineers made so many mistakes, that a new better correct stepping overclocks to something ludicrous like 7Ghz, I just dont see that 7.99s by year's end just happening.

Rather than neglect current achievements by speculating on months in the future, I think its important to focus on today's outstanding overclocking record, and how much skill and determination it must have taken Coolaler to get there.

The E8000 is the same as the other Conroes, except the default fsb will be 1333mHz. It has a much higher frequency at 3.33gHz, but it also has a much higher TDP at 95 watts. There is no increase in cache size.

Basically the E8000 is an overclocked Conroe for $1200.
