    Scythe Mine Question / help

    Hi

For my Core 2 duo computer, I was looking at the Scythe Mine CPU cooler. Not really because I'm a big overclocker, but because I can't stand the noise of the Stock Intel heatsink.

    Questions:

    The Board:

Last concern is how big the Scythe Mine is. I have a Silverstone TJ06 case which have the board upside down. This make the space over the board near to none.

You can see a picture here to give you an idea:

Is the Mine go over the board or it should fit ?

I'm wondering since if I order, I won't be able to send it back. It's quite hard to figure dimension of things you don't have

    Thanks for your help.

Also, is anyone know what are the stendard dimention of the LGA775 socket holes ? (the space between each holes of the HS) That could help to know if the Scythe Mine would fit.

    Thanks

    It'll fit imo

Check the scythe manufaturer website for dimensions and maybe a motherboard compatible list

it'll fit. the cooler doesn't pass the edge of the board.

even with a 120 mm fan.

This is something Scythe don't have. I like Zalman page for Compatible Motherboard list, but scythe have nothing.

Thanks for comments guy. I tried to make a scale image (the best I could), it look like I would have a 12mm clearing on the top side of the motherboard (which give a good margin of error )

It's not easy to find a big cooler when you have size restriction everywhere. the Silverstone TJ06 is a very nice case, but a bit a pain for compatibility.

    I will order it thanks

Edit. This cooler will be in a duct (tunnel) with 2x120mm + the 1x100mm that come with it. Should be nice.

Since the heatpipes of the Scythe Mine are perpendicular to the motherboard even when it's up-side down, the heatsink is pretty much in the same configuration as when the motherboard would be in the usual setup

Here's my take on the scaled image and it works well. Good choice on the purchase Vric

Thanks Zenphic. I did the exact same thing as you and my image is just like yours too.

I ordered and received the Mine cooler.. Great piece of craftsmanship. I'm impressed.

I "might" have some problem with the chipset cooler being too high (will see when I will have the board) but it would be easy to cut the Mine a bit to make it fit (it would be about 3mmx3mm that need to be cut on one tower.)

like Zenphic said, even if the board is upside down, the heatpipe of the CPU cooler would be at 90 degrees anyway. Do no problem.

It's possible that it might happend, but Pro-Clockers did a review of the Mine paired up with a P5WD2-E Premium and this motherboard seems to have the same northbridge cooler as the P5B and it cleared:

I may be wrong though, but it's cool to be optimistic

True. It look to clear it..

But hey, if it's not, it's a very simple mod (cutting 3mm of 2 fins will not hurt performance). Much easier that making a hole in my case floor if the cooler would be too large
