Peltier on 6800GT

I was thinking about installing a maze4 peltier GPU... However, I was a little unsure where I should connect to power it. I was wondering if I should attach the Pelt to the power supply of the prexisting fan on the gpu or if I should simply splice one of the wires in the case and draw power from there? It seems if I could attach it to the convenient prexisting fan connection it would look a lot neater...

Don't use a normal PSU for a Pelt (and especialy not a fan connector of a videocard), it needs al lot of power, and your psu will probably not enough (depending on the wattage of the pelt), so you'll have to buy an additional PSU for you pelt. (they sell special psu's for that)

Its only 80watts thats why I thought it might be possible...

with even 226W one is is ok to run it on a 600+ watt psu 80 wat one u can run on almost any psu not the fan connector though. the circuit traces arent built for that much current.

80watts is movement power, not even the usage power. Your looking more towards 120 watts. Thats 10amps on your 12volt rail you need dedicated to your peltier. I don't know about you, but any good computer with an awesome psu will still not have the power to correctly power your computer and the peltier, and with competition over power, I can gaurauntee the peltier will not lose that battle.

Sry but your wrong, a normal psu can never handle the load of a 226watt pelt exept if it doesn't have anything else connected to it. (and the pelt is a 12v model wich is not normal)

Look at this (I will presume the pelt has a voltage of 12v, but most have require a higher voltage): P=U*I so I=P/U, 226/12=18.83A

Also as n00b 0f l337 said, a pelt has a usage power that's higher than the movement power so, you'll need a very powerfull psu too power a 226W pelt.

But even if the pelt is "only" 80W the load will probably too high for a normal high performance PSU.

I decided to give up on the Pelt... I'm getting good enough performance from just a plain water cooling unit...

but thinking that it was possible to draw about 10amps from the 12v fan connector on his video card indicates that he needs to do alot more reading.

im pretty sure anyone, with tec knowledge or not, knows that 10 amps off the 12v line is alot of juice, and will beat on alot of psu's today. not to mention trying to run it off the gfx card.

either way it doesnt matter as an 80w tec isnt enough for the 6800GT.

It is possible to run 80w Peltier on PSU with computer. I done it with my antec 500w PSU.

I had a shuttle An50r motherboard
and overclocked athlon64 3400+
2 sticks of DDR
2x raptors
3 storage drives
I had no trouble with stability watsoever. however ur mileage will vary

trying to run a pelt with a Pentium 4/D now thats asking for trouble those are power hungry monsters

Not much, maby the card will get a few dergrees C colder but that's all. (and if you don't use a psu that can give it the right amount of power, you gpu will get even hotter!!)

a 6800GT draws abouy 90W at stock. once you overclock it though that number rises quite a bit.

But the gpu isn't the only thing on the card that draws power..
So the card might get a couple of dergrees colder, and if you OC it, it will get even hotter than before..
So it's better to don't use that pelt on a 6800gt.

You would be better off using that pelt to cool your chipset =) Then invest in phase cooling for the gfx card and processor and be hardcore. All joking aside, stick with watercooling for right now.
