Riesel Sieve Project

Hi to all XS members,

Do you guys want to join the prime hunting?
Here's a good DC project:

It's available two types of clients, the sieve client and the LLR client.
The sieve client can only eliminate k/n pairs by finding factors and the LLR will find primes. Sieve only for AMD's and P3 machines and LLR for P4 machines.

By finding prime numbers you will increase the speed of sieving and of course get your name at the prime number ranking. I only sieve because I only have AMD machines.Any doubts please feel free to contact me by PM here or at Free-DC forum. Thanks.

I agree KaptainBlazzed, we need a few machines on these projects. We are pulling in the DC Vault points by breaking up into these little projects and jumping ranks quickly. If I get a Conroe within the next month or two then it'll be devoted to spreading out our projects.

The project seems very simple and easy if you follow the guide but it takes too long for me and i got bored so i'm back on QMC for now.

Too long? That's the prize if you want to find a prime....
If you want to know I reserved a few sieve ranges, one will take me almost 25 days to complete on an AMD 2200+ and the other 62 days on an AMD 64 3000+.

OK i'm running this again with a p3 600. Question about points though, are they based on how many primes are found (or whatever we're looking for ) or is it based on how much is sieved? I would hate to do this sieve thing for a few days only to get no points out of it...i'm a stats addict

melymel at the moment but are you setting up an XSTM account? I'll probably run for XSTM my P3 wont get far on it's own although i'm not sure how it works for reserving sieve ranges, i.e. can you reserve more than one under one name or do all computers have to seive the same range

I can't connect either so I guess it's down. Also I don't think there is an XS sieve team yet because I don't think anyones submitted any results and I don't remember submitting anything for LLR but obviously I did

I can't get my head around that client either so i'm using the cmov version. That guide on that carlos linked to is very helpfull though. I found one thingy that it's looking for so i'll send that now and see if XtremeSystems comes up.

Sorry guys.

I will answer to all question but first RieselSieve went to BOINC:

1º - Points are based upon the size of the factors found when sieving. At this point you get 1 factor per 1G, or something less. On LLR points are based on the size of the tested number;

2º - Teams are created on the project page. XS is not on sieve stats because you guys didn't do any sieve work.

3º - Each machine should sieve different ranges if not you are doubling the work. You can reserve a 500G range and slipt it into 100G pieces and crunch it in 5 different machines, each one sieves a 100G block.

4º - I don't use the proth-sieve client, instead I use the jjsieve client. To start a range you guys have to first reserve it on the Riesel Project page. Then download the riesel.dat file from the web site.
To start sieving I make the following: creation of a RieselStatus.dat file with the following lines:

pmax=182660000000000
pmin=182160000000000

The numbers in bold represent the sieve range you have to sieve.

Run jjsieve.

Is anyone else running this?

I put some results on the board and got the team in the stats and am about to finish a 5g range for XSTM.:

It took a while for the points to be registered though, I don't know exactly how long as I forgot I had sent these results off but it isn't instant.

Anyway if anyone else is running p3's or something similar like me and b2urb please run this they seem to run fine on it, all my work has been done by a p3 600 and its done more than it would do in most projects

Carlos do you know if there's any downside to running the old client as opposed to the boinc client?

I noticed IB and other FDC members still run the old client so i'm guessing it's still ok. Also i like a project that isn't boinc based for once.

P.S. Is anyone else running this for the team yet or is it just me?
