    Where to find small heatsinks?

When I say small, I mean the sizes of things like the Promise IDE controllers on a mobo, or something like the Winbond Super I/O chips on our mobos. I guess a ramsink would fit, but it's awfully tall and definitely could interfere with a PCI card, it's not something u would want stuck on there forever.

I suppose a very short ramsink would be nice too for the intel ethernet controller on some motherboards that is in front of the AGP/PCI-E slot.

Also, the only heatsinks I can find that properly fit on an SB are the ones made for Vantec, but they have so little metal, I would prefer something thicker, with real fins, but not necessarily tall ones. They still have to be very short so not to interfere with the PCI slots.

I've looked for heatsinks on ebay, but there really aren't very many. The ones they have on there aren't made for the motherboard chips, they're often too wide.

I figure I won't get many replies, but I'm just curious if someone knows of something that I don't.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Check out the Micro Cool heatsinks Sidewinder sells. Will those do? The Micro Sinks are pretty small.

Correct the small vantec cooper one from iceberg kits fits SB, i know its too small for high Oc so I cut up a gold Zalman alu passive NB cooler and use the taller Blue alu one on my NB.

This kinda idea you want ? :

I have scavenged passive sinks from older video cards... Sometimes people sell lots of "untested" video card son ebay for cheap.

The two links have a lot of nice stuff. The smaller than ramsinks heatsinks would work well for some of the chips.

However, I still don't see anything that would fit a southbridge without taking out the dremel, which is a pain.

I have a TNT2 32mb that had a really thick aluminum heatsink on it. It had very thick, and low fins. As an experiment I ripped it off and put on the heatsink from my IC7-Max3 when I put the NB-1 on that. The heatsink will work great for an SB. Maybe I'll look into buying a group of untested ones with those heatsinks.

Foxie, There IS one meant for SB in them urls :

Microcool South Sink - Silver or Black

Dimensions of Southsink dissipator: 30(L)x30(W)x30(H) mm ????????

Is that near enough for you, I know it differs slightly from the vantec iceberg kits small sink.

Perhaps one of these might work for you.

They usually carry a larger selection than what is currently showing. I don't know if they are just short on stock or if they are phasing out this line of products.

I have one of those, but the problem is that it is so tall that it interferes with any PCI cards u might have.

Now this on the other hand looks better, but I'm thinking it still might be too tall.

In a case like this where there isn't too much heat being generated, do u think that having a thick base would be better than having long fins? Most of the short sinks I've seen have a very thin base, and a mild array of thin fins. I have yet to see a thick base with short dense fins.

I'm seeing really nice heatsinks though, I'll have to buy them and try them out on different chips.
