DIY Battery Back-UPS using marine battery

I've been reading on this topic of building your own battery backup supply. I've decided to do just that, however I'm haivng a little trouble deciding on some of the parts I need. First, the inverter. I've been looking at this inverter, but I've noticed it only has two outlets. Is it safe to hook a surge protector into those outlets to create more plug-ins or would that cut the maximum power output in half, because all the power would only be on the first outlet.

Anyone ever took on a similar project? I could definately use more information.

IF you don't know enough electronics to know whether the first port will get given all the power (power is drawn, not given), then you really do not wan to to be messing with the kind of current's involved here. Voltage may not kill ya, but current will get ya every time.

While I'm all for people trying things, you, your house and family are at risk if this goes bang.

make some great UPS's, well worth the investment. their UPStation GXT1500 is still going strong here.

yeah as InSanCen said it seems a bit risky for wat you stand to gain. if you r determined to do it maybe you could call in the expertise of an electrician just to cheack it over to make sure all i8s well. but it would most probably be safer to jsut buy one.
