hmm smart guardian is pretty off, this gives a much more realistic reading. also explains why core 1 craps out consistently before core 0, theres about a 4c difference. Now, I think its time to move on to my tuniq tower lol.

My readings are still lower than ambient/water temp. The CPU block itself is 6ºC warmer than the readings on Core Temp Beta 0.9.0.91.
I gather this issue is based on the sensor offset. Was there a fix for this?

I believe that the problem with your readings are related to unproper calibration of the DTS, from some testing I've come to the conclusion that the offset is for the mobo temp sensor.

I don't think that will help. My core 0 consistently reads lower then ambient. The odd thing is the average of the 2 cores is what MBM reports. I believe the error for core 0 is an AMD problem.

    Nice program.
My Smart Guardian shows about 26-27C while this program shows from 20-22C core 0 and 13-15 core 1. Thats probable why core 0 is the first one to fail when pushing for more than 3GHZ while core 1 seems to hit 3100.

Update: Just tried dual priming and noticed that at load my core 1 (the cooler one) reading matches the Smart Guardian readings at about 41C while core 0 is hitting 48C

Second update: So much for my theory on my failing core...the hotter core is actually the one that OCes more! I guess its just a simple weaker core case for my cooler running one...if you can call a 3ghz on air weak that is.

This thing says that my idle temp is about 5C higher than I thought, but load temp is the same as all other programs report.

EDIT: Just realized that it reports my idle temp as the same temp I get in the BIOS. But BIOS temp is under 50-80% load. I think the idle temp this program is reading is actually BIOS idle temp, which is several degrees higher than true idle temp.

According to this appy, my other PC loads at around 48-52*C. It's a 3000+ Venice w/Stock Cooler & AS5. All in an Antec Solution Series case with a Vantec Stealth in the rear and a low-rpm Antec fan in the front (like 40CFM for each fan prolly). The case is then in a desk enclosure thingy, so I guess the temps arent bad. The PC's inaudible which is nice.

my second core is +4C .. so its definitely a bad mount? do both have to be exact same?? and lastly i have arctic silver5 applied.. so when i remount, do i clean all of it, put AS5 again and then mount?

no, its probably not. i think its the ihs on the chip thats not mounted well. this program ruined my day lol, my tuniq tower idles barely any lower than stock. its a shame as i have a decent stepping, but just cant seem to get the temp down. second core at 37-39 is still too high... its stock voltage too

I'm not finding core temp to be too accurate on my newcastle. It reads the same idle temperature of ~40C regardless of what I do. I put ICE COLD water in my reservoir, core center and sisandra both showed my temps drop way down to below 20C. Core temp showed no change. I didn't get a chance to measure load but I'm running a dtek WW block and BIP2 radiator with lotsa air flow. The water in my reservoir is freaking cold. The block is mounted on there as tight as hell with thermal goup. I think the DTS on newcastles are a bit different.
Take out your ex tonight... one bullet should do it.

I've effectively killed my sig because it is no longer accurate. Oh well!

Full load, 2.7GHz 1.56v. XP-90 w/Panaflo M1A (Lowest Speed Model). CPU is Naked, XP-90 is modified to mount to naked CPU's. Arctic silver Ceramique is the TIM. Outside temp is 81*F so I'm guessing 72*F down here with 4 PC's on full load. (basement). PC has been on for approx. 4 hours, full load and some gaming.

    Seems very accurate

Has anyone with a very accurate measuring device been able to compare how accurate this program is at reporting temps?

The difference in readings between core 0 and core 1 may not have anything to do with the improper mounting of the HS or IHS. See my post above. Core 0 consistently reads below ambient temperature. As we all know that not possible with WC.

    heres a text dump.
    939 opteron 165 @ 2.7 0550upmw

reads 37c dual rosetta load on water. motherboard reports in the 40s.

reports stock voltage and only 35w tdp, though set in bios at above stock.

    Excellent application

Shows me 32-36 idle and 38-40 load on scythe ninja with fan at 800rpm 2.7ghz stock volts.

Not bad considering how hot the weather is in Uk atm.

It seems that if you would run without an IHS, you would mess up using the TCaseMax calculated for the CPU, as you have removed one TIM joint and the IHS. Which could account for temps below ambient.

In fact The Coolest can you explain the logic of using

TCaseMax-delta from TcaseMax = Core Temp.

I am missing something I am sure is right in front of my eyes. It would seem to me that

Fixed Value(unknown at present) - delta from TcaseMax = Core Temp

makes more sense to me. The sensor I would think will give whatever it's output the same for every CPU, if that output is calcualted into a delta from TCaseMax and that is what is put in the register then that's what it is, but why would that not be subtracted from a fixed reference value for all CPU's of a certain type from that point? Ahhh maybe I am too sleepy and will think about it tomorrow...

Also I would think the DTS would have a temp range spec for which the accuracy of the readings is within a certain tolerance, perhaps the temp sensor was not desgined for sub zero operation and account for off the mark readings in "Core Temp", just throwing out ideas for this one.

Opteron 165 no IHS. Water cooled.

    14/27 idle
    33/42 load
    ambient 24C

GREAT SOFTWARE THOUGH!!! I love where it's going!! Anyway part of the below ambient crowd...

There is no way u could cool below ambient with water cooling without cooling it actively like with a chiller or sticking the radiator in a frigde/bucket of ice. things like that.

The IHS isnt on mine and im getting 33c/24c idle with an ambient of 21c.
