Loaded @ stock, the core temps dont change. They stay 37/54.
When overclocked to 4ghz, at idle the cores are still 37/54 and loaded they reach 59/59.
It's actually quite bothersome. Oh well, what can you do?
I guess we just have to learn to ignore the temps we are so programmed to watch.

EDIT: This just in, Temps are 37/54 @ 4.2Ghz...... What a surprise!!!
hehehe...you have the same problem that i had with my 1st 9650...OH, how i wish i stayed with it!

i had the 1st 9650 replaced and my 2nd 9650 is crap with overclocking beyond 4200 mhz...WAY to much heat from the cores and heat produced through the PWM circuit feeding it the power.

I just hope the temperatures are correct this time!
The problem I had was that even at load the temps were wrong, I admit the gulf between the 2 cores was narrowed from 21C to just 12C but even so that was a large variation...and it did cause stability problems.
Fingers crossed my replacement will be fine.
I'll let you know what the packdate is to etc.

    arthur, another question.

i was recently seeing idle coretemps like this (4ghz overclock):
    core #0: 38C
    core #1: 28C
    core #2: 38C
    core #3: 28C

after resetting to default bios settings to see if C1E and EIST would work properly, which it did not, i recalled my overclock settings using the F7 key in the IP35 Pro board...when i did that, see how the idle coretemp readings changed; where core number one changes its reading 10C higher and core number two decreases 10C:

    core #0: 38C
    core #1: 38C
    core #2: 28C
    core #3: 28C

do you have any knowledge why consistent power up and power downs for a 4ghz overclock, your program was reading like in the first situation, and since the change to default settings and then recalling my overclock settings, the latter core readings are now changed for those two cores?

I could very well be way off, but maybe the core IDs are different?
You have 4 physical cores, maybe the core which was "core #1" to the OS (as core temp bases it's reading on Windows affinity settings), after the reset the same physical core is being assigned as "core #2".
I'm not sure if this is possible so take this explanation with a grain of salt

    I have no idea.
It doesn't play such a major role on the desktop.
VID is voltage ID, it's not the real vcore, I would just ignore it

    Thanks Ace.

Well I got the replacement CPU today.

    Pack Date 01/18/08
    L740B120T

It's a mixed bag really, here are my idle temps

The Good News is that I do not get any throttling or instability when I use all 4 cores

Temperatures are a bit weird, but all is working now FYI Max 100% Load after 1 hr =

    52
    56
    42
    49

So not all that bad really since system does not crash!

I still wonder why the temps are a bit odd...

True but I am not getting any crashes (yet) so will keep this one...I think.
Seems to be Intel are having issues with their TDiodes?

Thanks for this program works great on my QX9650. Thankfully I only have ~5-6°C between cores, similar to my old G0 Q6600/

Interested to see some OC results on that, some people are saying the L740 chips are a bit dodgy but mine is very nice.

i have 9-10C difference between the cores...two cores run 38C and the other two run at 29C (idle)....heatsink has been lapped....if i run wPrime bench, specifically the 1024M stability test, the temps come within 3-5C of each other.

Hey all i have a question. I just installed Core Temp on my Opteron 170 + DFI LP Ultra-D rig and my cpu temps are around 10C lower than compared to MbM5. Is Core Temp the real temp i should go by? I have my vcore at 1.4V and i'm wondering if i should go higher if my temps are this low.

There is some talk on the real temps threads about the sensors getting stuck on many quads. I tested it on my 9650 on phase and it said all mine were stuck, but I think that may be because I'm on phase and nothing reports my temps right, not even in the asus bios.

my new 9650 has 10C split betwen each set of cores at idle...when i bench them, the cores come within 2-4C, which means that the DTS sensors are cr*ap at the low end of the temp scale...they were inserted in there to really trigger throttling and then, i presume, board shutdown.

    Version 0.98 - 23rd April, 2008

    - Fix: Core Temp sometimes crashes when another program tries to access the log file. - Still needs further testing.

    - Add: Show load percentage per core.
    - Add: Adjustable Tj.Max value via *.INI file.
    - Add: Option to start Core Temp with Windows.
    - Add: Support new Intel Mobile processors

    - Change: Maximum logging interval is now 99999ms instead of 9999ms.
    - Change: Log file layout. Shows current temperature, high\low temperature, core load, CPU speed.

Kind of glitched. Instead of saying LGA 775, it says Socket 478 for me. Hah.
