Glad to hear you have yours up and running now Ace-a-Rue
Sadly my RMA isn't quite going to plan.
The courier (which the e-tailer provided) decided to take the package to the wrong end of the country (misrouted), They got it to the right location today.
However the bad news is that now the QX9650 is out of stock (was in stock right up until today) and now I have to wait upto 6weeks
    Oh well

PS can't belive how fast the QX9650 is compared to my Northwood @ 3.4Ghz

    Hey Arthur
Someone on another forum as an AMD X2 and his core temps are a bit odd.

That is on stock air cooling, any suggestions?
The CPU-Z dump file is here
    Keep up the good work

Brisbanes always give very low readings and wrong, nothing new.

Is this due to dodgy diode placement on their cores?

That sucks, perhaps you need a BIOS update or something as your CPU might be a binned QX9770 or QX9775. I'm hoping I don't have to wait that long.
It's really weird how a processor less than a few weeks later than the other one does not clock as well, back in the day it used to be the steppings which determined big differences. ie M0 vs D1 Northwoods or G0 vs B3 Core2Quad.
    Q/C issues at Intel?

I have no idea why, I guess they just don't calibrate them, or the CPUs aren't reporting an absolute temperature anymore.

the idle temps at 4200 mhz with this coolit freezone elite are good but when i load the cores up with wPrime 1024M bench...it is on par with my TRUE...amazing, a $400 cooling system can't beat out the TRUE heatsink...hehehe

i can pump the mhz up to 4300 but it won't boot at 4400 mhz...it shuts down like an overtemp is occurring.

    Thanks Arthur

I'm not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but I found this in Intel's site Re: the QX9650

AV30. Programming the Digital Thermal Sensor (DTS) Threshold May Cause
    Unexpected Thermal Interrupts

Problem: Software can enable DTS thermal interrupts by programming the thermal
threshold and setting the respective thermal interrupt enable bit. When
programming DTS value, the previous DTS threshold may be crossed. This
will generate an unexpected thermal interrupt.

Cool, well done on another release
I'll download that when I get my CPU back from RMA...guess what.

According a message purportedly sent from a Lenovo rep to resellers today, Intel's T9500, T9300, T8300 and T8100 Penryn chips are going to be delayed, affecting the laptop industry worldwide -- and obviously Lenovo's latest in particular. The word is that a thermal sensor issue is to blame, and supply on the chips will be tight through February.

Nothing official from Intel yet on the matter, so we're going to keep this in the rumor category for the moment -- but don't be surprised when that shiny new Penryn laptop of yours ends up taking a few extra weeks. Be strong, we can make it through this together

Yep, with anyluck when I receive my RMA it is a packdate which does not show the temperature sensor problem as I wouldn't want to send it back again
How are you getting along with your RMA'd CPU now?

temps reported are all moving up and down but two cores at idle report 41C and the other two cores report 31C...abit's Uguru report 34C...i kind of believe 31C since the Vcore is set to 1.30v.

Arthur, does your coretemp program read directly from the DTS sensors on the cores or does your program after to go through the board's bios first?

Well, there is definately something wrong on the chips end (e8400 DTS).
At stock I get 37/54. Remounted twice, not even a degree change.
Loaded @ stock, the core temps dont change. They stay 37/54.
When overclocked to 4ghz, at idle the cores are still 37/54 and loaded they reach 59/59.
It's actually quite bothersome. Oh well, what can you do?
I guess we just have to learn to ignore the temps we are so programmed to watch.

EDIT: This just in, Temps are 37/54 @ 4.2Ghz...... What a surprise!!!

Just ignore the idle temps. The load temps seem correct to me.

Why is the VID on my QX9650 .7125v? .....
    Asus P5wdh being used....

It overclocks to 4 ghz stable at 1.375v w/vdroop mod (I assume that's an average overclock/vcore, right?)

My replacement CPU will be arriving next week as the e-tailer which is handelling my RMA have informed me that they have a delivery of stock tomorrow and as soon as it is all booked in they will dispatch my replacement QX9650 cpu.
I just hope the temperatures are correct this time!
The problem I had was that even at load the temps were wrong, I admit the gulf between the 2 cores was narrowed from 21C to just 12C but even so that was a large variation...and it did cause stability problems.
Fingers crossed my replacement will be fine.
I'll let you know what the packdate is to etc.
